Re: 58 GMC Project

Okay, I’ve been going through some picture post withdrawal. So here's what I did yesterday, the first day that's been less than 100 degrees in the last 14 day's. I installed an aluminum fan shroud and electric fan after deciding to do away with the mechanical one.

I bought the fan off of an e-bay auction. Here's a link from the same seller for the same fan.http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/16-CH...1166QQtcZphoto The shroud I bought from Sumitt Racing. I tried to get the link for you but the part number SUM-381102 does not come up anymore. You might call them and see if they carry it anymore, although it was only about 3 weeks ago I ordered it.

Hey Cal.
Its almost a shame to put a hood over that awesome good looking engine room.
Do you get the cab back this week? Really looking forward to see it.

I'm still not sure when I will get the cab back. I hope it will be painted this week!

Thanks Barry,

I already took apart what I used to lift the cab so I can't take anymore pictures, but it was not the hard to make. I used my engine hoist and two 4x4's and three across. The one in the center I use two pieces of angle iron with a hole to attach it to the hoist so it could pivot.

Hey Cal58GMC,

Your truck is blowing me away. What are you trying to do make me spend more money? Thanks for the compliments on my dash and firewall it’s coming along slow but I do enjoy body work (not). But I do all my own work from lack of funds.lol

Hey Porterbuilt
Congratulations for making the cover of the latest issue of Classic Trucks. Awesome work man.

How do you use the 3 hole one just leave one bolt out ?
Here are a few pics on my mounts. When I pulled the original mounts off there was only three bolt holes!?!? I know there were a few Camaro's running around with in line 6 cylinders and from my experience when I changed my 72 Chevy truck over from a 6 to a 8 I had to move the mounts to a different set of holes so you might have one or both on the wrong set of holes for a V-8. The first pic is from the the back looking forward. The next is from the drivers side looking down towards the back. The front bottom bolt was the one that had no hole.

Re: 58 GMC Project

Mine is that way too Cal see.

I think it is correct. Every car in the junkyard I found was also this way. I think that we have the extra holes drilled in the subframe for either an inline or a V8 from the factory. Mine had extra holes. check this pic out before I mounted the motor mounts.

Jebb,

Did you also only use 3 holes?

Re: 58 GMC Project

Yes, that's just the way it is. The Camaro's in the junkyard with original parts only had 3 bolts in so I figured that must just be the way they came.

Re: 58 GMC Project

I thought that was right. 55ChevyPu gave me a PM about his motor mounts not lining up. From the pics he sent, it looked like he was using a set of holes that used all four bolts, so that's why main motor mount bolt would not line up.

Re: 58 GMC Project

I tried to use the same bolt pattern as those solid motor mounts and it definately wasnt working out. Its a big relief to hear I was bolting them in the wrong slots. Have I mentioned how much of a ***** those bolts are to get in, especially when all the lower suspension is still together.
