Yeah right now it's parked in the storage side of our shop between a black model a and a dark blue BMW. It kinda stands out a little!!

That does look real nice. And when you finish you can come on over and help me out on mine. Seriously though, you have done a great job and even more impressive is the rate that you have kept going. These projects take some guys decades so by comparison you are flying.

Re: 51 Chevy 1/2 ton, My S10 swap

I didn't have enough time to paint the box this weekend, but I did have a couple of hours to spend on the truck. I installed the lower grill panel and the big fender braces that go on the inside of the fender from the rad support to the outside of the fender lip. Also painted and installed the "V" braces from the rad support to the lower grill panel. The braces changed my fender to hood gaps a little, so I will need to do a little more adjusting. Hoping to paint the box and rear fenders this coming weekend.

Re: 51 Chevy 1/2 ton, My S10 swap

I got the box and rear fenders painted today. Everything turned out nice, but I did get a couple of runs in the clear on one of the boxsides...

The only parts left to paint are the running boards and the metal trim pieces around the out side of the door window openings and the inside windsheild trim pieces. Also the rear roll pan that I still need to make!!

I'm going to the shop tommorrow to put the box together and mount it on the truck!!

Very nice! I like the stake pocket holders. Did you make them? I also like how you welded in the fender bolts to the box side. Nice and clean,

Makes me want a piece of pumpkin pie. Very nice. That is the cleanest paint booth I have ever seen. Looks like an Operating Room.

Re: 51 Chevy 1/2 ton, My S10 swap

Thanks for the kind words everybody!!

Farmersid, yeah I made the stake pockets. Xpickup from this forum has made them on some of his builds and he was nice enough to send me a template!!

Wheelie, the paint is Glasurit, made by BASF. Our shop does mostly BMW and Mercedes Benz, so that paint is "approved" by both of those manufacturers.

I was surprised how much surface area there really is on these old trucks. The color didn't cover really well so I needed 3 coats of basecoat.

To paint everything I've done so far it took 9 quarts of sprayable color and probably 7 quarts of clear!!(2 coats). Luckily I can buy the materials at shop cost!!

Re: 51 Chevy 1/2 ton, My S10 swap

I finished painting the last few parts today.

Running boards, window trim etc...

My 13 year old daughter will be having back surgery next week so the truck will be on the back burner for a few weeks. I'll have time while at the hospital to keep up with everyones builds so...keep me entertained!!

Re: 51 Chevy 1/2 ton, My S10 swap

yeah hope all works out for you. I just had my first daughter and I couldn't imagine having to go through stuff like that. My instincts are through the roof right now. Hope you get back on the truck. I will say I'm super pumped to get back at my projects, but its gonna be awhile with the new baby. breaks aren't always a bad thing.
