Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!

yeah, I like stuff that makes you look twice. Especially when you see something so original that it makes you glad you took the second look.

If that doesnt sound too weird.

Seriously, I think that everyone should PM me with what they would realistically spend if these items became available....Then I could better decide if they are worth producing, or not.

One truck catalog lists the lever knobs at $12.44 list, $9.95 sale.
Ash tray knob $6.19 list, $4.95 sale.

You figure 20% to 50% mark up for them being custom and aluminum would probably be in the more than fair bracket.
Not sure how much time you have invested, or how much materiels cost, but probably in that ball park pretty easily.

I know you said to PM you, but I thought the rationale was worth sharing.
Me personally, and because it is to support a friend, I would pay upwards of $20-$30 for a set (plus shipping).

I would sure like to hear what your average offer turns out to be though !!
I like general concensus questions.

I would probaby pay more just because I know the amount of time it takes to make small projects like this, and I dont have the equipment to do so, so having said that I think that if you were to sell the whole set heater knobs and ashtray knob as a set I would pay $50 to $75. also there are other knobs in the truck that could be made to make a complete package and round out the whole truck with custom knobs. If you look in any of the catalogs you will see that most of them sell their knobs (head light knobs) and others for around $10 each and we all know that they are plastic and they will at some point crack and twist off. So again having said that I think that aluminum knobs are worth more and will last the life of the truck. This is just my opion, but I would not do all that work just for 20 to 30 its just not bussiness smart. The only way I would consider lowering the price is if I could figure out a way to mass produce them so that they wouldnt cost as much to produce. In california a machinest gets around a $150 hour to fab items like this. Again this is just my opion...........If you do produce them I will buy a set.

thats about around the same price i was thinking, i seen aluminum dash knobs on $ebay for $10 each, and these are just made for are year trucks! i like the idea about the other knobs i seen these for the dash http://www.boeseengineering.com/deta...oduct_id=9700P
and i'm thinking of buying them as well!!

I'm with everyone else except a couple of other points. The other posters had some good points.. Don't discount the fact that unless you do mass produce them that they are one off custom pieces. that alone would put a set for the interior say 4 to 8 matching knobs in billet ??? I would pay 100 bucks maybe more. Especially if I could help with some small design feture that no one else has .. If you do just a basic one size fits all...Think about mass production + figure out parts cost + plus labor time and x by 2. Thats how we used to quote stuff when I did millwright estimites. Thinking that way would be like what 50 to 60 for a set...My Mentor used to say...Never forget to pay yourself...other wise you might as well just go to work at your job right...Peace

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!

with everything above

Especially the package deal on all knobs! I hate stuff that does not match when doing builds like these.
Am seriously happy to see you getting some feed back on this, glad you asked!

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!

i too like the idea of matching up all the knobs, but what a hugh amount of work to make. billet stuff is cool but once you start the look, you want to keep adding pieces. most of the dash knobs are similar except the wiper/washer knob.
seems like i remember generic window and door handles that were billet and would fit... there may already be some dash knobs out there from rod and custom vendors.

i would also like a set of heater and ashtray knobs, they are really nice.
$75-$100... all polished out... seems real fair.

Thanks a bunch, but Murph was not right on this...70+ hour work-weeks tend to make a guy tired!
Not that I am NOT workin on it, I am just workin on several small things at the same time, with nothing really worth posting!...Yet.

You are right, the pics suck...But I know what the pieces really look like!
When you get some good pics on here, then everybody will know.
I hope that it is sometime soon!

Re: My Unexpected '66 SWB-Fleet-Restomod Project!

finally got my deluxe controls, and got them painted and the knobs installed, hope theses pics dont suck as bad. had to re-spray my dash because of the standard heater plate covers the dash about a 1/6th of a inch and the deluxe comes in from behind so there not installed in the truck yet but hope this will do them justice for now.thanks again modge and sorry it took me so long, just haven't had time to work on it,family and work seems to be absorbing most of my time here lately.
