Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Thanks Captain and Pirate!
Today we should be able to get at least one coat of paint. It is supposed to be chilly today, so we'll have to see how well mother nature cooperates with my plans! |

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Finally some more progress.
Been collecting some new toys. Here is the tank all painted up, all new hardware and lines. Tank from other side. 63Spud is the man! He had a '60 GMC that I was able to scab some parts off of. I got a new (to me) high transmission hump, just needs one hole patched, and two holes cut. To replace mine. The drivers side where it connects to the floor is almost totally gone, and the passenger side is not too far behind. Last edited by chevy_man5; 10-28-2012 at 04:48 PM. |

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
The parts truck had the 305A V6 like mine. The radiator appears to be in better shape than mine. Is there an easy way to test for leaks at home, or do I need to take it in?
The vinyl on my seat was trashed. Several springs on the bottom of my seat were broken, too. 63Spud to the rescue again. The seat in the parts truck had newish vinyl. The springs in it's seat back were cut out. My son Chevyman10 and I took the vinyl off of the back of the parts trucks seat back, and put it on my seat's back. Put it all together, and put it in the truck. Much better!! We also pulled most of the wiring out of the parts truck, and have gone through and cleaned it up. It is in decent shape, so we will try to see if we can re-use it all. Last edited by chevy_man5; 10-28-2012 at 04:48 PM. |

Great looking seat there. My gas tank isn't painted but I like the look. I might steal it

The gas filler gasket? Right below the gas cap? It was a pain to get in, but seems to look ok.

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Thanks for the heads up! I will try to be careful and not get any on it. Is there a better one available, or are we stuck with this one?

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Ive used a couple pieces of inner tube to plug the inlet and outlet secured with hose clamps then pressured it up with a radiator/cap checker.
Like this: Its a good tool to have.

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Thanks Bomp!
I have been following your thread. My son and I both love the idea of stretching the cab like that! We didn't get much done today. We went and got some more parts from 63 Spud this morning. This afternoon we put in the choke cable, finished painting the differential covers, cleaned up and straightened up the garage a bit, and plotted and planned our next step. Almost forgot the kick-butt pulled pork we made today too! YUMMM! Going to work on a friends car tomorrow morning, then hopefully get back to playing in my garage tomorrow afternoon. |

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
Actually got to spend some time on the truck this weekend.
Took apart the front hubs, cleaned everything up, repacked the bearings, and put it all back together. Here is my son working on his side. He watched me do the first side, and pretty much did his side on his own. We put the differential covers back on, and filled them. We drained the transmission and he transfer case. The fluid in the transmission came out a little dirty, but not too bad. The fluid in the transfer case came out sparkly and full of glitter. So either it is some old fashioned fancy gear oil, or I have a problem! We also had gotten a new transmission hump from 63Spud. Mine was rusted pretty bad. His had an odd hole cut in it. We cut a patch panel out of my original one, and have it ready to weld in next weekend. |

Hey, that is awesome that you and your son got to work on it together! Also, your patch for the trans hump is nicely done. Keep up the progress whenever you can and cherish those times working with your son.....

Re: '60 GMC 4x4 Long Fenderside
The hole in the trans cover looks like it was for a hand lever emergency brake.
Work on your truck & spend time with your son , life is good.
