denee; i'm glad you like them, because... i have never liked my door panels, the shape of the arm rest needs to be a little more graceful. i have already reshaped them once and will probably leave them as is. i made them big to use them as arm rests when cruising. i sat in my seats and located the height where my elbow was resting on them.

on my truk you need to slam the drivers door, i figured any hidden fastener would pull thru the door panel. i originally had 3 recessed stainless steel cap screw on the top, they pulled thru the fabric and left an ugly hole. now the top is held on with ss flat head screws with plastic washers under the head.

the bottom of the door has half a dozen drill point screws holding it to the door skin. not pretty but they are covered by the carpeted panel. the carpeted panel is held in with 4 sheet metal screws that sort of bury themselves in the carpet pile.

you could possibly make them with hidden fasteners by screwing the armrest to the door and have the panel held on with the plastic push pins like they use on modern doors. but i had a huge hole behind the armrest for my power windows.

i have sound deadening membrane on the inside of my doors and ensolite foam on the inside of my door panels. it does cut down on noise, but at 80mph the wind noise around my doors is deafening

there is a good ''how to'' in the interior build link in my signature. be careful with fiberglassing, it can be addictive

I plan to do the Dallas to Memphis stretch. Will be driving our 66 GTO restomod (6.0/T56), but the next project is a 55 pickup, and I wanted to look at your Truk. The GTO is not finished but it is a great cruser. At 80 in 6 gear the motor is turning 2000RPMs. After seeing your Power Tour picture of the Speedo buried on the right, I knew I would need something to keep up with the hard core guys.

Thank you Ogre! The door panels are still extraordinary, and of course the rest of the truck! I'll probably just stick with the original door panels as ugly as they are~ Anyway, it's something I can look into later down the road~ when I get it on the road

you can do full door panels after getting your truck on the road
i'm still finding parts that i pulled of truk 10 yrs ago in my shop

Thanks, they really don't look too bad! Like you said, later on I can address the more cosmetic looking parts of the truck~ door panels or change the color of the door panels to match my dash

thanks, it was on my counter for 3 days, just noticed the pic today
the pic was taken at the hines park cruise, that in my opinion will replace woodward for cruisers
a closed course and 30 yr cut of date make for nice cruising without the mini vans

truk is under going a total front end rebuild for the HRPT
20,000 miles and the whole front end is shot
both shocks are broken, power rack is leaking and locking up from my ps pump failure last fall,
rubber bushings are egged out, sway bar link is bent and i'm replacing ball joints and tie rod ends to get ahead of the game.





and it's filthy under there.
spent they day cleaning parts and wiping oil off the frame/motor/trans
when my ps pump failed i got oil all over everything

What the heck where you doing to break the shocks like that? Did you get TRUK airborn?? JK
Better to fix this type of stuff on your terms. I too faught a leaking PS resvior/pump last summer. I too hope that I fixed it this time.

So what manufacturer under engineered their product?? I have always been suspicious of the aftermarket MSII stuff (my assumption). Its not like you use your truck like I do!

fatman mustII stuff, they come well recommended but this is a little disheartening
shocks hit the lower a-arm when the suspension bottoms out, which happens frequently on michigan roads
i called fatman and they blame it on everything but their stuff
i cut out the offending part

That is what I suspected, shock being used as a bump stop. You will figure it out.

Shock size that buckle or bottom may be due to the type coils that you are running. There are basiclly threes sizes for MKII's 4cyl, V6 or V8. If you are using 4 or 6 they maybe to weak for weight of truck might consider V8 springs. Leaky rack can be caused by miss matched pressure valve causing pump failure. Bent sway bar link length can be an issue it, should be long enough to hold sway bar parallel to lower A-Arm.

my rack failed from a ps pump failure that dumped junk in the rack
the oil drained from the ps lines looked like liquid brass
just glad it didn't affect my hydroboost

my lower a-arm is level so the spring rate is right
just michigan roads are rough, buckled and frost heaved
you can see where the shock and spring base collide, i cut out the impact zone

You're not kidding- years ago I dated a girl from Dexter, who lived on a washboard road. The car I owned at the time was my grandmother's '70 Nova that was rust-free inside and out UNTIL I spent the summer tearing down that road...

truk was put together last week, drives like a dream
amazing how well it drives again, i think new rubber raised it an inch up front
i'm going to drive it 1000 miles and pull one of the shocks to check my mods/repairs

there is a rubber bump stop on the top of the shock that fatman recommends be cut off to allow for more shock travel
i left it on to see if that eliminates the dent on the shock, along with my spring cup mod

fiberglassforums.com has gone away. i found the fiberglassforums site when i started my interior build. i learned a lot from the experienced guys on the forum. i went there to learn the how to on building a sub box behind the seat on my 58 truk.

it snowballed from a sub box to a complete fiberglass interior for my 58. the old moderator sold the site to someone he thought would carry the site on. sadly the new moderator did less and less with the site and finally closed it last month. i knew nothing about glass when i joined fgf.com 8 yrs ago.

some of these pictures are in my build thread, but i figured i'd post more since i usually sent people to my interior build over on fiberglassforums.com. sadly it was an intensive build log with lots of questions, answers and lots of progress pictures. what i found amazing was the length of time from my first post until my completion, if i can ever call this project complete
