Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Pic 1 Old tar removed, ready to blast and prime.

Pic 2 Drivers side fender, on work horse.

Pic 3 Pass fender had a bow along the edge.

Pic 4 Doesn't look bad in pic, but it was, had to cut some reliefs and weld it back.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Another poor use of bondo, this was on the pass. fender and was a least 1/2" thick.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

They had bondo starting at the top and going all the way to the bottom, at various thickness.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Pic 1 This is one of their reasons for bondo, fender was pushed way in at the bottom.

Pic 2 I made a couple of relief cuts, straightened and welded back together.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Pic 1 A few days later all repairs made, body work done and in primer.

Pic 2 Also primered the inside of front fenders, over the encapsulator paint.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Here I have welded in partial exhaust tubes to form pockets. Pockets are to make it easy to get to alignment bolts for front end. Will also weld in piece to cover old hole for steering.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Inside of front fender. I put 3 coats of bed liner on all 4 fenders, this is to help from getting stars in the paint from rocks, etc. It works great.

Don't it look pruuuuudy. Paint is by PPG, single stage urethane, called Theatrical Teal.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Pic 1 Front fenders all painted (both sides).

Pic 2 Here is one rear fender with paint. With the bed liner it makes it look like they are fiberglass, but their all steel. You can also see part of filler tube for gas.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Sorry so late, just got free. Back to the cab body. You can see all the rust between the upper and lower parts of cab. To keep this from coming back, I will spot blast a spot about 5" long between the body pieces. Weld it solid, then grind a line back in to match were the two pieces were attached. This took awhile, but I still have the body line and don't have to worry about rust.

Re: My 50 roadster pickup build

Pic 1 Don't have a close up of repair, but you can see there is still a line. Here I have stripped the old paint, etc. Added some filler on the top piece.

Pic 2 Another view, still need to do filler work on the corner patch panels.
