I got out to the shop a little this past weekend between rain storms and having to build a chicken coup for the Mrs...... more "honey do stuff"
I got the front floor plates fitted and welded into place so that the side bars have a place to land. I got the side bars tacked back in again and got the top windshield bar fitted. Im going to have to re-think the underdash bar as its going to be a knee-knocker where I have it placed right now. Man I sure wish I had known about this DIY Bender planset before I started all this roll bar stuff... - well for future bar benders here is the link to build this - http://www.gottrikes.com/tube_bender.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=NfJIFK2gaXY I did receive a special treat from Chevy Dave this week too!, THANKS DAVE! Well Dang!!! its good to get the creative juices flowing again.... I had a chance to get and work on the roll bar some more, I wasnt going to let that thing beat me up any longer....
Got the Top windshield bar fitted into place after many many grindings and notchings to make it just right. Got the front floor pads welded into place and integrated the front cab mounts into them. Came out decent.

Then I started to work on this new hood idea....
 wow if something is gonna drive me nuts I think its gonna be this, but we'll give it a go! If it doestn work out Ill just go back to stock '57 hood because I aint messin' with the '57 body.... maybe.... So I got the hood into place.... and then had to figure out how to mount the 58-59 hinges to the 58-59 hood using the '57 firewall mounts.... sounds confusing doesnt it???? The 57 hinges mount outside of the hinge assembly while the 58-59 mounts to the inside of the inside assembly - so its a shorter distance between mounting points. I had to find a way to make up that difference with minimal effort.... Well heres how it will work : I took the measurements and layed them all out to see where both hinges would line up, then I made a cardboard template out of my design and worked with it until i got it fitted. So I am going to end up using the stock '57 hinge and I have made an adaptor to make it fit the 58-59 hood mounting. So nothing has to be cut up and changed. I will make these cardboard parts into real parts when I get more time.... Pretty simple actually. Once I get the hood mounted and fitted properly (as best can be) then I can start cutting, moving and shaving stuff..... Oh and I just happen to have a set of newly powdercoated (silver metallic) 58-59 hinges and springs ready to go that I wont be using anymore.....

Cage, hood hinges, really really fat tires. All looks great. So if the fat slicks are your Sunday tires, what are your Monday-Saturday tires? Compact spares? LOL

Should have it in 30 days. So motor dilemma is done and over with.... no more BS to deal with.

So here are the hinge adapters I fabbed out of some cold roll angle iron and flat steel. Just ran a nice single bead on one side that will be hidden on the hood side anyways, drilled the hood side holes slotted so they are adjustable and then bolted them onto the hood. Now I have to fit the hinge side to the adapter and drill the holes for wherever it meets up and should be good to go.....
