Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
It is actually a '50/50 mix of rustoleum and lacquer thinner shot through a paint gun'.........quote right outta Joseph's mouth. My brother Fred and Joseph really know their stuff...............or they are gonna figure out how to make it work!!! Chicano Engineering! haha
Joseph is at home right now chasing more of those bugs on my 65 down. I am sure she will run like a charm when I get home. I am lucky!!!!

The 54 looks great. Do you think they could put a post up on how they did it? Did they paint a couple of coats, then sand, paint a couple of coats and sand?

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Fred didn't do any 'between coat' sandings on the '54. He did some quick body work, put the car in primer, final sand then paint. He usually does two or three coats of color with an HLVP gun. He uses lacquer thinner because it reduces the drying time big time. He used semi gloss black on the body and gloss white on the roof. All Rustoleum.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Thanks for the info. That's a great looking "poor man's" paint job. What type of gun is that a gravity feed? I bought a cheap gravity fed gun and was thinking about doing the same thing. I've never painted anything (except rattle can). I wonder how long it will hold up. I guess for the money, you could just rough it up and spray it again. Thanks again for the info.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
I bought a Harbor Frieght gun myself. That's my thought...what's the worst that can happen. I can always sand it back off if it looks horrible.

I have the Harbor Freight HLVP gun. Works OK for the money.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Well it's been a while since the last post. Update:
We took the truck to our good friend and body man, Abe Flores in Moriarty, NM. He's going to tackle those door skin patches for us, finish up the fender patches and fix a few dents for us. I'll be out there to help him when I can. He's an awesome body man so I know the work will be "cherry".. Thanks Abe! I'll try to take some pics of the progress and post them as the work gets done. We can't wait! Later... JC

It's all good, Jose. With the band and everything we hardly have the time neither. We still need to get together and try some of you imported tequila soon. Maybe on a 'football Sunday'. I hope all is well...

I'll let her answer that. She can't decide on colors yet.

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
I went to Moriarty this past Friday to help my buddy Abe with the door patches. We got the doors off (that really hurt because the doors open and shut so perfect, I didn't want to remove them), cut out the rust and fitted the panels. Everything is mocked up and lined up. Still needs to be welded. He also began working on the dents in the bed. Looking good! Sorry, no pics yet...

Re: Progress on my woman's '65 Short/Fleet.
Here's a few pics of the action. My buddy Greg snapped them with his phone...
Me grinding, Abe cutting and fitting, then the test fit on the truck...

Did a little more work to the door patches this past Friday. Some welding and grinding... Getting closer...
Here are some pics of Abraham in action... Notice Abe's '59 Apache in the background. His prostreet project. Awesome truck that he's building...
