first bug photo is the most recent Coral. I have to get it tuned up before I can drive it
The first one is from last week
The one of it in primer was from '12
The one of it sitting on grass was from last year



I am however installing a new vacuum advance on the '59 Gmc when it warms up

Is that the 1600? I see it has dual port heads. Does it have a manual transmission or the automatic-stick? I had a offroad bug I built back in the late 70's. It had the 1600. Great engine when built.

MAJOR UPDATE

We finally found the issue as to why it wouldn't idle or run worth a crap. Older friend of mine came over and we pulled the distributor out and installed it in the correct position, and installed a new vacuum advance since the old one was on it since it was brand new. The truck will run now decently now, still have to adjust some the timing a little.

The oil pressure is apparently at 15 psi? When I accelerate it goes to 35 psi.. I could be wrong about the 15psi though, I'll have to re-check it soon
It blows a little bit of white smoke out of the exhaust but not bad at all
Also had a Mouse problem in the seat and I cleaned most of what I could get my hands on. A few skeletons of mice in the bench seat YUCK !!!

Finally ordered an Original Zenith Carburetor for my truck
They are rebuilding it and making it look new for me so it
will be here probably before Friday or so

This should fix the major problems that are currently with
my truck. The carburetor that is currently on it is a Rochester
and it is nothing but problems, even with a rebuild. It leaks all
over the places, and a Rochester B is made for a 235 and this
Zenith is what originally came with my '59. It's a model 29-228

Installed the new accelerator pedal and the transmission cover that DaveCarney2 gave to me last year. The zenith carb that I ordered is also on its way

They're in great shape besides the cowl vent area which can be fabricated
I am excited to see how the carb works on the truck

If you saw the carb from one of my previous posts, I am hoping that the zenith
will fix most of the idling problems and its spitting and sputtering problems

The Zenith carb that I ordered came in the mail today
Finally got the Carb today
Zenith 28-228 Original carb for the 270
Installed it, it just needs to have the Vacuum fitting installed
and tuned a little but the truck will start up and run

Finally after 25 years. The truck runs like its brand new again, the source of all the problems was the Carburetor. I put it to a test in the pasture and it never once hesitated, spitted or sputtered. Grandfather parked it in the early 90's due to the truck running terrible and him just being tired of messing with it .. Now all it needs is rust repair, new glass and a Gas tank

It dies now because it is low on the Gas
I drove it everywhere around my land today and it idled well but it needs to be idled up a little, because it will act like its dying and shoot back up in rpms

This whole area where the Stainless steel trim was is rusted out
Hoping to find a cab that I can cut this piece out of it
I need the left top of the door frame as well
There is a part of the left air vent in the cab that I need as well.

Finally installed the new gas tank. I still have to clamp some things and ground the gas tank, but it should be fine. I just hope it reads correctly


I will take a photo of the Tank in the truck, it was getting ready to storm and that is why I could not take photos or pour gas into it

Nice work on the tank. What are your plans for those patches? A jimmy rigged brake and a little bending should get you pretty close. I betcha more will have to be cut out beyond what you see.

I have a professional welder/fabricator in my town that will be able to fix all of the rust in the truck

Finally took the wood that was placed as a temporary fix. Looked horrible so I pulled it since now that I have a Gas tank.

Looks like I am missing some Cross sills for the new wood to be put back into place when it comes time

The truck is very reliable now. Starts up on demand, now it's time to get the shocks on the truck. Then save up for the body work and glass
Finally finished up installing and fixing the fuel gauge. I put 5 gallons into the new tank and it reads around 1/4th. The truck almost caught on fire when we were priming the carb because of the air in the lines, and when it backfired it spit gas and fire all over the fender,the ground and my older friends arm. We took it for a ride down the road the truck ran perfectly and idled right as well. Next step is to buy new shocks and more patch panels. At least I know that the trucks engine is worth fixing.

Got rid of the mouse problem for now I believe
