Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
It's (unfortunate) not what is coming to as it's already here. We need to go a bit backwards & take care of business as we use to.
It is SAD that you can't even leave your own property on your own property ... without some ****bag stealing it. Some countries cut the hand off of thieves so everyone knows who the thief is ... Again - that sux & hopefully it'll turn up. R46 |

Can I ask about the steering column, do you recall the length or model no.? Looks like a perfect fit.
By the way, killer build thread! Just wish didn't have to read about your stolen trailer thread to come across it. |

Not trying to pour salt in your stolen trailer wound... however.... on the bright side.... (if there was one to getting your trailer stolen???)
Cecil now becomes a driver... Not a trailer Queen?!?!!? |

Yep, that's a problem. Already planning on the next project, and got a truck in my sights, just have to convince my Aunt to let go of it.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Chris built this truck to be driven and he would kill me if Cecil became a trailer queen. Honestly I think he was worried when I asked him to put a trailer hitch on him. I had to promise him Cecil would only tow a my Harley on a rare occasion.

Steering column is a 32" column from Gearhead enterprises. It is a pretty good fit.

It's C10, Fleet Long Bed. She and my Late Uncle are the Original Owners, I think. Been in her pasture since probably 2000.

Cool parts. ECM didn't fix the drivability concern?

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
AD - nope it wasn't the ECM. But the good news is now Cecil's engine is fixed!!!
Chris was determined to get Cecil running so he trailered him 3 hours each way to get diagnostics. I will let him go into details but I am just happy that Cecil lives. Hopefully we can get a test drive video up sometime today or tomorrow!

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Arrrg! Just got off the phone with Chris and I'll be darned if Cecil's transmission is busted. Third gear is shot. On a lighter note Chris did say that it runs like a bat out of hell in first and second gear.

Darn, what's that old saying "if it weren't for bad luck, I'd have no luck at all"
Pretty soon all the bugs will be out and you'll be cruising with a $h!t eating grin.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
OK, so here is the whole story on the TPI quitting issue. I took the truck 4hrs to West Plains, MO. To see my buddy, the be all and end all of GM stand alone fuel injection, Brendan Patten (he operates the web site "lt1swap.com" and is an industry leader in developing software and pioneering new stand alone swaps. Only the best for Cecil!
After discussing all the steps I had taken, he was scratching his head as well. Brendan used a GM scan tool to read real time data, and noticed that the MAP sensor vaccum appeared to be responding sluggishly. The culprit was a piece of mud dauber nest lodged in the vaccum fitting for the MAP sensor (on the bottom rear of the intake). It was causing intermittent vaccum loss to the MAP and dumping fuel to compensate for an misinterpreted lean condition. What the hell! A mud dauber nest??? Really? I never would have found that! Guess that should have been expected since it sat in an Oklahoma barn for 27 years LoL... I went to get some miles on her today, but as soon as it hits 3rd gear it just revs free.... Runs like a striped ape in 1st and second though! I should have a video up tomorrow.

Re: Cecil the 1953 5 window / S-10 / 5.7 TPI
Great news about the motor. That type of problem can make you start to second guess yourself, but a mud dauber nest. Why would you ever think to look for something like that. Guess that's why we have guru's. Sucks about tranny.

Well at least he is moving and "road worthy". Someone PM'd me about the new April truck of the month contest "Do you drive that" What do think does Cecil meet the criteria for it since he he now moving on his own?
