Re: 1986 Chevy C10 SWB Step Side
The plan is to get truck back after it is painted and leave off the front clip until the engine is installed. Also leave the rear box off too for now. Once engine is installed will trailer to local exhaust shop for installation of exhaust system and change out of rear gears to 3:73. Maybe a posi unit too?? Then will put the front clip and rear box back on. Hope this happens before the snow flies again.

Re: 1986 Chevy C10 SWB Step Side
Jeff, thanks for the encouragement .
A couple of picture from the street Ron nationals this weekend in lLouisville. Ordered two new slot wheels to go with my other two, from vender US Mag, they are 9 inch wide with 4.5 inch back spacing. Not my first choice, however, will do till I find 10s. |

Re: 1986 Chevy C10 SWB Step Side
Visited the body shop today, and the truck had a little color on it in a few places, cutting it in. The bed had been put back together partially, for painting. The fenders will be painted off the truck, then installed.

another picture from today. The bed parts were all primed as individual pieces, cut in with color, then bolted back together for final painting.

Re: 1986 Chevy C10 SWB Step Side
Cleaned up the step brace and more bolts for putting the bed back together today. Same process as before, media blast with Alu Oxide grit 120, then immediate application of ceramic coating. The first picture is the brace for the step in front of the fender. Next are more bed bolts on an alu tray used for cleaning and painting. The last image is of the tail light bracket bolts that attach them to the bed. They are 5/16, 1 1/4" long with a grounding washer that cuts through the paint to make a good ground for the tail lights. The gold one in the picture is for another bed and is original unrestored.

Re: 1986 Chevy C10 SWB Step Side
I have had no luck finding an additional two American Racing slots wheel to match the AR111s I have yet. As an interim measure I purchased two new U.S.Indy 15x9 wheels with 4.5 BS to use on, I hope, truck soon to be returning from body shop. I purchased them for $113 each from US Mag, at the recent Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, KY. Shipping was $20. They are pretty close to the 1980s AR slot wheels, if you look close you can see a few differences. They are made different on the inside and it is pretty hard to get the tires ( 275x60x15) installed, these are 9s and I would think the 10s would be really hard. These took 15 mins and two guys, with a few scratches to the wheels. They said the recessed inside part of the wheel is to far from the edge, these being like the old Western wheels.
The wheel on left is AR111 and two on right are new US Indy. Les |

Re: 1986 Chevy C10 SWB Step Side
Note: the new US Indy wheels and tire combo, dynamic balanced very nice, only took small amount of weight in one place. The AR111s were the same way.

Re: 1986 Chevy C10 SWB Step Side
More progress on getting truck ready for painting this week. Lots more cut in, a little more to do, maybe first coat of base color next week? Doing three coats of color, along with three coats of clear. A few pics of progress this week.

Thanks for all the encouragement, hope to be putting truck back together soon. Started cleaning up some of the parts needed today, the plastic cowl grill. Below are some pics of the grill clips, and grill.

Re: 1986 Chevy C10 SWB Step Side
photos of plastic grill with clips. Note too interesting, just info for what they look like. Also, cleaned the windows and vent windows today with a little fine steel wools, to remove all the old crude around the edges.
