With no A/C in the truck........yet. Sitting in that seat is pretty sticky and warm.

Re: Surf Blue

I don't doubt it. It's bad enough in a 6 yr. old daily driver w/ leather seats. Couldn't imagine a 40 yr. old truck w/ NO a/c at all and a "pool hall bar stool" bench seat. lol

...(sigh) wish I at least had one though. lucky

Re: Surf Blue

Been extremely busy the past few months but I finally managed to get a little more done on the truck. I finally got some Line-X sprayed on the inside of the bed which makes the whole truck look better IMO. The rear brake drums needed a little attention as well so I painted those black while I was getting things done.

I'm planning on getting a nice serpentine belt setup sometime in the next couple of months. Not sure exactly which one I'm going to get yet ,I'm open to suggestions. Shortly after I get one I'm going to get goin on getting some Vintage air installed ,this Texas heat can be brutal sometimes. I've also been thinking of swapping my billet grille out for a stock 72' grille ,I'm still undecided though. Here's some more pics, I'll post more when I get more done.

That looks really clean. The stock grille would top it off!

Re: Surf Blue

Looks good...now you're going to make it harder for me to decide to go black or my blue body color with the liner I spray...

Re: Surf Blue

I actually like the billet grill on it. The spray liner looks nice as ell. I just went back and read the beginning of this thread. Come a long way since '08. Looks like the billet wheels haven't made it on yet. Still one of the nicest trucks though.

Re: Surf Blue

I was sick of my brakes not feeling as strong as they should so I ordered up a vacuum reservoir to see if that might help out. Ended up mounting it on the core support and running the hoses through the driverside fender. I know it's not much but it's progress.

I'm still researching different serpentine belt setups trying to figure out which one to get. Right now I'm leaning toward Billet Specialties (tru trac) setup. Gotta save up for that one though ,they're proud of it.

I had the Billet Specialties Tru Trac on my 52. You will like it at first, but after a while you will get tired of polishing all the little itty bitty pieces all the time. Save your $$$$$

Re: Surf Blue

D,

The bed looks fantastic. With the bed finished, it definitely takes the rest of the truck up a notch.

1sik52 has a point there about keeping all that billet nice & shiny. Google the GM set-up & see if you can find pics of it detailed out like we were talking about. Heck.... for the price of used stuff, you could get one & slick it out (on a lower scaled budget). Then if you think the engine compartment needs more 'bling' sell the slicked out GM stuff & get your money back out of it (basically trying it out for free ).

Use the money saved to get that 'other problem' that's been bugging you fixed. Did the 'cam can' help w/the brakes?

I'm glad you said that I have been thinking about that and it does seem like it would take alot of maintenance to keep it looking nice. I drive this truck quite a bit and constantly cleaning and polishing the engine compartment doesn't sound very fun. I will definately consider it when I make my decision.

The GM performance parts setup is definately more budget friendly which makes life easier. I found a few pics of some nice looking setups as you suggested I guess I need to just make a decision and go with it. As for that other problem that has been bugging me ,that's still in the plan to get it handled, some day. Buying a cheaper belt setup would definately help that along.

On a side note another project managed to make it's way to my house. My dad had an 83 Chevy SWB that needed some attention so he said he'd buy all the parts if I did all the work, so I took him up on it. It'll probably end up being mine one day anyway. I'll post some pics of it soon.

Re: Surf Blue

Have you considered the "black" version of the tru-trac set-up?
Less maintenance,... but less "bling" also.

Re: Surf Blue

Also, jlaird turned me on to the basic billet specialties setup. The pullies themselves are only around 300-350 shipped. Combine them with some basic March chrome brackets ( I scored the PS and alt ones off ebay for under 75 shipped for both) and you'd have a sweet setup with minimal polishing required. I am planning that route on mine. Plus, for under 500 including the serpentine belt you would be saving some serious coin.....

Here's a picture minus the PS pulley. The setup holding the alternator is the same I have except from March in chrome and I have the matching one for the PS pump.

Yes I have considered that as well. For some reason I can't justify it to myself to spend that much money on a kit and it not be shiney.

That might not be a bad way to go if I could piece together enough stuff to have a whole setup. I'm going to be running A/C so I need everything.

most of the A/C pumps fit the serpentine setup or have options for it. Billet specialties sells a cap to finish off the front of the A/C. They do sell it with the brackets also for like 750 total through summit. Still alot less than the Tru-trac or March or vintage air setups...

Yep, it's March and it's $$$

They do have a painted and clear coated set that's cheaper but it's not that shiny...

Re: Surf Blue

That's the setup I got, the "Custom" series silver powdercoated March serpentine pullies and brackets. My motor had a hodgepodge mix of old and new...and this was a way for me to simplify/upgrade it...and I since I wasn't really looking for motor bling.

not really what I would call serpentine sine it uses 2 belts, but they are the 6 rib serpentine style.

Still no firm decision on which setup I am going to go with. I'm pricing a GM setup right now ,which if I decide to get I'll dress up nicely.

Re: Surf Blue

if you dont want to hassle with the polishing by the system that comes polished then clear powdercoated...i believe march sells a system like that but not sure on price. other companies might sell their system clear powdercoated...also check into vintage air they are very proud of their stuff too....just trying to give some extra ideas but i do believe powdercoated can equal washing and drying later instead of hand polishing each piece....
