It should be ready to go in the spring. I don't think I'll drive it during the winter (even without snow) due to the mile long gravel driveway that I live down (with potholes filled with water). I guess we'll see how I feel once it's ready to drive. |

Re: Ackattack's Pro touring restoration thread
Truck looks great. I am just hoping to finish my chassis soon, really wish my truck was to the point yours is at! By the way, are you still liking your G8. I am thinking about getting one and wondering if you have had any issues with it at all. Thanx

Whenever a paint shop gives you a deadline, multiply times 3.5 and you have your time when you will get it back. WE of course cant see exactly how it looks, but it does look BEAUTIFUL from the pics you posted. Love that bed cover...

Your truck looks Awesome! Glad to see it out of prison. Unfortunately, that is the way it goes on most of the body shops that are "reasonable". The have to keep the everyday work done and it seems like the full paint jobs get stuck on the back burner. Anyway, you need to enjoy it now.

Re: Ackattack's Pro touring restoration thread
Holy Crap, How did I miss this build? Where do I start, I love the color, Back in college I had an S-10 I wanted to do in a similar color. The gauges, WOW, I love the gauges, and that toneau cover. I gotta look in to that for both my '69 and my dailey driver. This build is so kool. And congrats on that baby boy. Be sure to get him in to these awsome trucks too. Keep on rollin' man, I gotta see this thing done.

Re: Ackattack's Pro touring restoration thread
I made a little progress on Brriser this weekend. Basically I got the engine/tranny in. I ordered a few parts and worked on organizing the garage a little. I also got some work done on No-buck but that's a different thread.
Here are some pics: Engine going in: Engine in its new home: And Bruiser put to bed for the night: (California Car cover): |

Re: Ackattack's Pro touring restoration thread
not yet, it's stock 5.3 for now. My plans to "shine" it up are for some "CHEVROLET" cast aluminum valve covers and a LS6 intake painted the body color. Relocate the coil packs some so they're more out of the way.

Re: Ackattack's Pro touring restoration thread
It's a california car cover
So I've been making slow but steady progress on the truck. I got the drivers side door latch, handle, mirror, and weather stripping installed. Started on the passenger side Painted the underside of the dash that the painter overlooked Got the radiator, tranny cooler, and A/C evaporator installed Tranny cooler lines and radiator hoses installed Rear bumper installed I also installed a battery cutoff switch. Since I'm moving the battery to the bed, I have to have a switch per NHRA rules. I drilled out one of the bumper mounting bolt holes. I think it turned out well Installed the under the dash portion of the brakes pedal. Wiring harness mounted to the firewall Wiper linkage And finally the CPP modular drop spindles. These are the ones that move the tires in ~1". At full dump with the ECE spindles, the tire would sit on the inner fender. With the new spindles the tires are barely clearing the inner fenders with the tires straight, and turned slightly...we'll see later how far I'll be able to turn....not that I plan to drive at this height. I also rebuilt one of the rear LT1 camaro brake calipers....have the other one to do. Oh, I also installed a braided stainless steel hose on the end of the hard tube since the calipers are floating. Oh yes, I also got a set of dual piston aluminum calipers from Performance Online. These are supposed to be direct replacements for the stockers, so I'll also be using the CPP caliper bracket to mount these up, but haven't gotten there yet....so we'll see. The LS1 F-body calipers just weren't going to work. The bracket that holds the caliper was too big to allow full pad contact. I would imagine that with a bigger rotor you could make it work, but not with the stock diameter rotors. Oh, I also worked on the body alignment. What a pain in the butt. I may still have some tweaking to do. I know that the drivers door isn't closing properly after I installed the weatherstripping. The fiberglass cowl doesn't fit the greatest either....what can you do..... More to come

Re: Ackattack's Pro touring restoration thread
well after trying several different setups for front brakes, I finally got something together that works.
These are CPP drop spindles with their "stock" brake caliper brackets. The calipers are POL's dual piston aluminum caliper. I had to do a little clearancing on the caliper brackets to make room for the calipers since they're a little larger than the stock caliper. I was planning on using Hawk HPS pads, but they were about 1/8" too thick to fit over the rotor and the pads that came with the calipers were a little thinner, so that's what I ended up using. |

Re: Ackattack's Pro touring restoration thread
awesome job, read through the whole post, lol. I've got a little help as well, gonna be two in January, tried to help me pull my tranny out by taking all the tools I needed and running away with them. Nothing will beat that first drive with the two of you though. Keep up the good work!!

Re: Ackattack's Pro touring restoration thread
So those calipers should fit on ECE drop spindles with a little clearancing?

Here's a link to the calipers:
http://www.performanceonline.com/sto...at=1294&page=3 They should fit the ECE spindles with a little grinding (didn't try them out) |
