That wagon is crazy cool and it's not too far from me (Yikes) I have to remind myself that I'm fresh out of room. No more cars. But it sure would look cool next to my hearse.

Those old wagons had so much style and the car companies gave the engines such cool names like "Golden Lion, Super Commando, Rocket 88, Fireball, Magnum and a few I'm sure I'm forgetting.

Anyone driven a push button automatic tranny equipped vehicle? Curious what that’s like.

Before the buttons Chrysler had the lever out of the dash. I drove a '55 like that, not mine.

I had a typewriter Torqueflite in my '63 Dodge Dart. They have no park position, you have to use the park brake. Just push the button, and you're in that gear. The buttons simply set the stroke of the cable to the selector valve in the transmission.

I love it, I don't think I can afford it though

I've never worked on that linkage or drove one. It sounds interesting.

My aunt and uncle had one when I was a kid. I rode in it but never drove one.

I wonder if the A/C works on the wagon? Rear air, I'm impressed.

I'm more amused by the 4 ducts for heat(?)/defrost and AC sitting on top of the dash!

My step sister had a '63 Sport Fury . The controls were to the left of the steering wheel . It had a lever for park that you would pull down for neutral and buttons for the gears. It was fun to drive . (don't tell my sister)

That’s neat to see. Thanks for posting. Now I’m curious about how all that linkage operates.

There are probably old Chrysler mechanics that are trying to forget.

I'd forgotten about the "Park" lever when I mentioned the buttons on my old Dart.

Deadhead, it's just a cable that the buttons push in or out to move the selector valve.

I remember seeing a new Edsel at an Edsel dealership that had transmission pushbuttons in the hub of the steering wheel. Here's some Wikipedia info. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Teletouch

My college roommate's mother had a 1963 Dodge Dart that I recall having pushbuttons.

That picture brings back memories. We had a 58 Edsel Citation when I was a kid and it had the push buttons in the steering wheel hub. My dad picked it up cheap and my mom hated it. So he sold it. Gotta keep mama happy.

Just one cable does all that? Park lever and all? It still sounds complicated.

Re: Pic Thread: Station Wagons

My only memory of the push button Plymouths. We had one when I was a kid around 1960 and one saturday night dad took the family with him while doing some bill collections and wouldn't you know it that mess of controls fowled up with us in one of the worst parts of town and on a saturday night. Dad had only a small pocket sized screw driver with him but managed to get it going again. We never owned another one.
