Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
For the first time since I owned this truck, it has seats and seat belts. It is starting to come along.
[IMG][/IMG] I also finished painting up some new inner fenders. Krylon satin black for under the hood and duplicolor bed armor for the tire side. [IMG][/IMG] Finally, a local guy posted a set of hardly used headlight bezels for $20. Obviously I had to bring them home. [IMG][/IMG]

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
That tan felt was bugging me and since I am not buying carpet right away I had to do something. I had some Duplicolor vinyl and fabric paint so I shot some on it. I like it much better now.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I cleaned up my threshold pieces and sprayed some more satin black Krylon on them. The old door seals are going to have to do for now so they got installed as well. I also spent a couple hours cleaning up and painting my battery tray. At least all of the oil coating it kept it from rusting.
[IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] I checked my local salvage yard for a better grill and came up empty, imagine that, so I decided to learn how to plastic weld. My grill was pretty busted up and was only being held in place with one screw. The top rail was in three pieces and both bottom outer tabs were broken off and gone. Surprisingly it worked out really well. I managed to completely repair the top rail. I had to re attach every vertical piece as well. I cut up my old headlight bezels for filler material and completely rebuilt the lower tabs. [IMG][/IMG] It might not be pretty, but it gets the job done.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Either I really enjoy building stuff or I'm cheap. Either way I have taken pieces form a couple of discarded exhaust systems with a few new pieces and built a complete dual exhaust system. I made a cross over pipe from the passengers side so they both run down the drivers side. I still have a couple mounts to add, but am pretty pleased with how it came out. Don't mine the shiny tips. They will clean up some at least.
[IMG][/IMG] The mufflers are cherry bomb turbos, so I had to paint them red. [IMG][/IMG] Now I just need to fire it up and see how it sounds.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Not much to update...too much other stuff going on. I did manage to get the front end mostly put back together and was happy that my heavy hood stays up all by itself.
[IMG][/IMG] I also buttoned up my exhaust...for now. [IMG][/IMG] I sprayed some satin black inside the tips and worked on the outside for about 3 minutes with scotchbrite. It looks good enough for right now. I was a little disappointed when I got the truck fire up. Those Cherry Bomb turbos are much quieter than I hoped. I don't want it to be obnoxious, but a little rumble would be nice. I will address that later...remember, it just has to function right now. The other issue I encountered when firing it up is my facet fuel pump is having a hard time getting the fuel to the carb. I had it running by manually filling the bowl. I have not spent much time trouble shooting that yet. I am going to remove the line from the carb and check that filter and run the pump with it disconnected for a bit so I know I have a good prime. The truck was supposed to be on the road by now, so it is crunch time. With any luck it will be ready this weekend. It needs to drag the Jeep toe the Bantam Jeep Festival on June 7th and I really need some driving time before then to identify any issues.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
coming along nicely! I used that vinyl and fabric paint for my door carpets and such and while it took a lot of it to officially 'dye' it, it came out great and is still soft like carpet should be.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Well...another weekend gone and nothing to show for it. I spent the weekend keeping the wife happy since it was mothers day. Enough of that, I have a truck to finish. There were town wide yard sales that the wife wanted to go to so I did at least pick up a set of 6x9 pioneer speakers for the truck, in carpeted boxes for $15. I also picked up a new inlet filter for the quadrajet so hopefully once I get a good prime this thing will run as it should.

I'm glad to see I'm not the only loosing out on project time to wife projects. Nice score on the speakers and good luck with getting it ready to tow your ride!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
Well, it runs. It revs great, idles great, recovers from revs just fine, but it smokes quite a bit. It will hopefully get better as I run it. It has sat for 12 years after all. Can anyone make me feel better because they had similar experience with a motor that sat for an extended period? There is no coolant in the oil.
Lets see if my video works.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I can't say I've had that specific issue, but if there isn't an obvious mechanical clatter I'd go run the wee out of it. Valve guide seals, rings or ??? PCV working properly? Congrats on getting her running!

I wouldn't worry about it until you've run it on the road for a while. Sounds good though!

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I would put a little marvel mystery oil in the fuel and the crankcase. Then take it for a drive and baby at first to make sure it's lubed well then whoop the snot out of it.

I painted up the B pillar trim with the Duplicolor Flat Black vinyl die. I am really liking this stuff. It goes on smooth no matter what you do to it and dries very quick. I had a run on the one piece and once dried it was completely gone. [IMG][/IMG] I let the truck run for about 20 minutes so I could see what the temp would do. I am thinking it does not have a thermostat. It crept its way up to about 210 but the upper radiator hose never built pressure. It was hot and I could feel flow going through it. Either way, I'm going to pick up a thermostat. Most of my gauges are working, but I have no gauge lights. I guess it is possible that all of the bulbs are out, but is probably more likely to be a wiring problem. The radio actually works. It is a really nice aftermarket Jensen from about 1990 (I'm not sure how to type sarcasm). The speakers are crap, but those yard sale pioneer 6x9's helped a lot. Eventually I will get into the dash and put some decent speakers in there and I will put a better head unit in.

Re: Daddyjeep Hauler - 85 K30 crew cab short bed
I did some trouble shooting on my power windows tonight. I have power to the drivers door and to the passenger rear door, nothing to the other two. Anyone have any thoughts on where to start? I haven't even started looking at motors or switches.

probably bad master switch (driver door).... I would buy all new switches, and do the relay mod to all of your windows now, while its all apart. One of the best things I did on my truck!
