I was going to have one made from billet & coated. Just as expensive I would imagine

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.

he can use the mold again, but! the trick is making the framework the same to fit the mold. he would not give me a break on multiples, i tried. i was going to run a few to soften the blow from mine.

Not too bad actually if you have access to a mill & lathe. I made one for our shop go cart. Only took about two hours.

I rolled some 1" round rod 6061 into the diameter I wanted then milled the finger grooves into it. Welded the spokes to the rim then chucked it up and turned it down to clean it up. A short trip into the debur shaker to soften the edges and it was ready to go.

It was kind of slippery so we ended up making another one that I knurled the round rod before fabrication.

Well that sucks. It won't cost him anywhere near as much to make the next one.

Ask him if you can have the mold since you paid for its development.

That's a pain and seems like pretty poor business if he now has a mold and won't give you a break on it???

You should make your own reusable two-piece silicone mold to work from using an epoxy resin.

http://www.smooth-on.com/Castable-Ep...295/index.html

Pretty inexpensive if you have the time to do the grunt work yourself.

I am going to make some stuff that isn't available this way.

Re: 68 pro touring, auto cross c10 (mid life crisis)

I'd be in on a billet style vintage steering wheel like that, is anyone doing any style of vintage wheel in billet, for our trucks?

auto crosser doesn't need a radio; just the sound of wumpf, brake, screech, wumpf, brake, screech.

Do you have a build thread on the other project? I don't remember seeing one.

Thinking heavily about building an LSx swap 67-72 Suburban to replace our Tahoe.

I've been thinking about that for my imaginary track truck build. How about a halo hoop pushed all the way to the roof with A-pillar bars following the windshield frame, thru the dash, and attaching to the floor and firewall, and the B-pillar bars following the curve of the back window wall to the floor. You could also attach a harness bar just lower than the top of the seat(s). In keeping with your OE look, you could run a bench seat, maybe scoop-out the foam a bit more for comfort and bum control, and run harnesses that could hide behind the bench when you are not racing and just use the lap belt portion, but then when you take to the track, flip 'em over, strap yourself in until you can barely breath, tighten some more, and let 'er rip. You could even put OE fabric over the halo hoop for a headliner. And you could hide a dash bar behind the dash too.
