Been slowly making progress, just spent the better part of last week taking alot of measurements and cutting all my pieces. 3x3x1/4 wall box tube is not fast to cut on the chop saw, especially when you make bonus cuts the wrong way.

Anyway, here is my new frame clip that should drop inside the exterior frame rails this saturday:

I know I'm bad about using the camera, I just hate to stop when I'm on a roll. I am charging my camera now, am bringing it on Satuday, and WILL actually take pictures. Promise!

I'm taking this thing to the destruction derby after I finish it.

I actually thought I grabbed 3/16" at Sims, but I looked later and found the side I measured had gotten smashed at the end where I measured it. 8 places to check wall thickness, and I pick the one that is undersize! I may not be towing with this, but it will still serve duty hauling my dirtbike and quad.

As promised, here are pictures from yesterday.

Here is how it started

My friend George showing me how to blow off rivets heads with a torch, without melting the frame around it

Frame clip anyone?

After cutting, you can see my marks of where the frame clip should go.

Prepping the frame for initial fitment of the clip, I squared everything up, and then slid the clip into place.

Oooh, thats nice! Level, square, and no trimming required! The plumb bob shows axle centerline to a mark on the floor I made from the stock frame.

After checking fitment, I marked all of my cut lines for the remainder of the frame from the clip. I cut off all of the remianing pieces I needed to, and throughly cleaned off all of the metal that would be welded.

I had my shop-mate Mike weld the sections together, his welds are much prettier then mine, and he welds ever day for a living. I clamped the sections together, checked everything again for level and square(it's within 1/32 on the diagonals), and let Mike rip on the welding!

Done! Actually, I have to weld the lottle window in the side of the frame, grind down some of my welds on the notch, and I'm going to grind the underside corners flush.

So, I actually came through with pictures this time. Amazing!

I need to now mount my 4 link, figure out my crossmembers, and get this thing back to rolling!

That turned out real nice.....and the welds are nice as well. Did you make up the link bars? I am curious as to why threaded ends on both ends.

Bought the 4 link from FBI(local truck vendor at shows), and thats how it came. Both ends are RH thread too, which I thought strange, but it was $180 with all the brackets. I assume it's to get a little more adjustment length out of it, but I'm not totally sure.

Good, I started runing into allignment issues with the bodies on a stand. I figured the best way to make sure they will be straight would be to place then in their final position on the frame. I need to pick up some body mounts, and bolt them back down to the frame.

I would say Mike should do the welding...those welds look like TIG welds. Pretty sweet, considering they are MIG.

Very nice work you guys are doing. I can't wait for the next round of pictures.
