Using billet hinges in the stock locations, that is why we had to go full custom on our wheel tubs and still retain the standard mounting position. However the new hinges use gas struts so we were able to fill the spring wells. As far as the second build, well the plans is still in place but to be honest this truck has taken so many turns and changes that it became a full frame up custom and the Race Truck will sit patiently in the background for another year or two. One thing has changed. I was planning on building my own chassis for the Race truck but after building this chassis on Greg's truck I will farm the chassis out to Rob @ No Limit engineering. we have chatted about what I want and he is confident we can have a roller able to pull 2 g's lateral and handle the 1,000 HP program I will be shoving into it. |

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Don't know why but here let me show you what we have been doing.
Greg designed and laid out the inner panels that mount above the wheel tubs and I took pictures of him doing the work, first thing is make a cardboard pattern complete with notches and the bead roller pattern, check now do that twice and after 200 test fits and trims, transfer that to some 16 guage steel. Check; Now cut it out and chase it around the bead roller, then brake it on the brake check now fit them and tack weld them in. checkmate |

Beauty work there Robert! Wishing I had a bead roller to do work like that! Very professional job. Makes me look at my budget build some times, if I’m doing it justice. But I figure I saved it from the field, and being a redneck wrenching in the driveway isn’t so bad, I’m having fun anyways. I can see you guys are as well! I’m watching, keep up the good work

New core support frame, taller and wider then the OEM. Now allows a massive crossflow radiator from Be Cool to nestle right in.
We built a wooden mock up of the radiator to allow me to build around it without damaging the ultra spendy aluminum piece. |

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Now we un-boxed the radiator and test fit it, the cap penetrates the top cross-member but is reinforced with a piece of 12 Gauge stainless steel exhaust pipe. Will be trimming the top to flush out with the tin we are building that covers the top. (More on that later)

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
So for the first time in many many months we set the truck on the ground. This is the first time the front sheet metal has all been on the truck in 17 months.
Nothing is actually bolted up or adjusted. this was about confirming all the modifications worked with one another,.. and yes, they all do. We also are starting to get some preliminary ride height set ups now that the majority of weight is going back on the truck. |

The core support turned out really well, it’s almost a shame to cover it up

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
We did install a partition curtain between the clean side of the shop and the fab side. Now that we are into sheet metal we will be using body fillers and shooting primer so needed to protect the "clean" stuff.

Further progress on the core support.
Greg is running a Vintage Air system so today we got the condenser integrated. |
