Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Nope, you'll never believe it. A riding mower.... I had it on CL forsale and I got an email offering me the box. I drove up to his house Yesterday and we swapped. He had 2 boxes and was downsizing. He had moved up through the ranks and is now a Service Manager... So ya know what that means. No time for playing with the tools, lol... He did have sweet new Monte SS. 5.3V8, front wheel drive too. Real nice dude. I was wondering at first if everything would be on the up and up. It was.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
I got to work on it for a few minutes tonight. Got the top off and some other little stuff. Cleaned up my area some. Got a real good deal on a box of grinding wheels. 25 for ten bucks.... Southern Tool Supply in Louisville. I don't do much heavy metal work but I couldn't pass them up....

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
I remembered I had a nice thin sheet of stainless so I cut the filler cover out of that. I still need to bend it up but it looks good so far. Got my body lift finished to, hope yall like it. I hope it holds up, at least while I sandblast the bottom.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Well I bent up the stainless and it didn't work to well. It broke. I reckon its too hard for a sharp bend like that. Oh well it still looks kinda cool. I'm going to have to come up with something else. Maybe I'll cut up one of my old hoods. I hate having to buy materials when I've got all kinds of stuff laying around. Got the body mounts in too....

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Yeah, some smart person suggested that last week. Should've went that route Would have saved me from wasting the stainless. I just figured it'd be one less thing to rust later

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Like the body lift...
I was going to use pipe, either PVC of metal w/cut up all thread to hold things in place for your same reasoning...cause I have it laying around. Great progress, keep the push on. |

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
I was going to use some square stock I have laying around. But I'd get booted out of the garage for wasting metal..... Just wait till ya see how I sand blast the bottom. Its going to involve either a tractor, chain and boom or a tractor with a loader and a chain.....

Its in the plan, toss some block around the back tires, lift it, brace it, then blast it....., then if time allows, epoxy it... Can't wait to see it a solid color.....

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
Tonights fun... Cut a bad spot out of the top passenger side bed rail. Took the trim off the inner bed rail. Bolted down the 4x4's. Took me forever to find enough long bolts. I'm not about to buy any that length..... Too much money.... I had a piece of allthead. I hated to cut that too. I've gotten cheap, its the gas prices. 3.75 per gallon in Louisville today. I figured out that wasn't stainless I used for the fuel fill cover. It's some kind of aluminum. Oh well.... Well its been awhile so heres a bunch of pics... Including a better one of that sweet tool box..... Man I love that box...... The drawers slide so nice. No draggin' like the craftsman.

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
I'm going auto.... Picked up a 205, adapter and coupler from a very good parts source. The adapter was a little rusty from laying out. I polished it but its still pitted. So instead of running it and worrying about leaks, I'm gonna buy a new one. I'm gearing up for a week of fun. My birthday is Monday so I took the week off, lol.... I'll be workin' on the Blazer all week, provided no one bugs me to do this or that.... I've been takin' it easy for the past couple weeks knowing I have this to look forward to.
Heres the coupler, its pitted all the way around where the seals ride. Would yall run it or buy a new one? |

Re: "Slowly but Surely" Big J's build thread...
