Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
them pillars ended up being four pieces- each.....
got some more work done on the LT1. truck will be pretty much stock looking, but went under the hood. first LT1 i've built- weird running the plug wires to the front.... a little more on the int. kinda at a standstill, thought i had a couple dana's left, only got one, so i ordered 8 or 9 of them, & only got a couple borg warner t-case's, prefer the 205 so i ordered 5 of them too, & a couple sets of some nice steelies and some other junk. while i'm waiting i was looking at the '94 dually i picked up the other month. REALLY need to get my eye's checked..... never noticed the meltage on it. looks like it was to close to a lamp or something- bummer had plans for this & the 454 SS |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
i thought the two '90's chevys would be quick builds, swap the boxes around.....
like the red ext-cab, they have the lousy AMT one piece chassis.... the 454 SS with a real funky paint job... notice the drivers side box twisted in- very tuff to fix.....but i'm going to try cause i dont have a 88-98 single cab dually in the fleet, plus i DO have everything already for it. and i think it will look cool. just threw the body in the stripper, see what happens with it.... and with the left overs i can make another truck i dont have in the fleet, ext-cab SB. this one i need to order tires for, thinking a set of baja claws. after i took these pic's, i heated up the cab with my lighter & was able to push the cab up so it's pretty decent, but the rear cab wall is a mess, might have to cut it out & scratch in a new one.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
hmmm....shades of the cameo, two days in the purple pond & nuthing....
down to the store for another jug of dot 3 a tub of cabs, boxes, & interiors well this would explain some of it....poor 'ol SS, having had to suffer first threw a pink paint job, then being "butched" up with a screaming yella multi-stripe clown car paint job....it will finally receive a "proper" color.... the box bulkhead on the SS was also bowed, got that fixed, & was able to save the rear cab wall on the melted ext-cab, mite have to add a little styrene to the bottom of the rear window. when the dually box comes out of the stripper, i'll give it a try.... not a lot to do on the '55 'till some parts show up. got the body sanded down pretty decently, to hard for my big digits to sand inside the cab, made a headliner instead, & avoided the fan into the rad problem this time- LT1, electric fan. was able to use the stock rad support, cut the stock rad off it, filled it, & added a 'vette elec. fan |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
sweet, lucky man getting out, we just landed a huge hotel roof that will tie us up for 4-5 weeks, which pretty much kills any time off
crappy deja vu, same thing happened last summer too.... multiple projects? dont know what happened, just minding my bizness building a little old '55, next thing i know, styrene explosion & chevy's everywhere.... yeah...jeez... on the plus side i always got something to screw around on- even when waiting for parts. right now i for see a lot of sanding.... what a rainbow, no primer was used so the paint has "etched" it's way into the plastic and i do mean rainbow, blue paint under the yella started messing with the dually box. front bulkhead was a disaster, melted in solid & pulled the bedside in, & melted a big chunk out of the front of the floor. again, no primer used.... bulkhead was beyond saving, got rid of it, bedside is already starting to come back |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
made a new bulkhead for it. the inner box is square, but i think i will heat the outer fender & see if i cant pull it out another mil or two. them are the rims & tires going on it, seems low to me....
not the best stuff to use, but it's all i got right now, and looks better than a smooth box with a hole melted in it and as mentioned, getting the x-cab squared up, & straitened the box bulkhead. have to make new rear & 3/4 windows, they got a little melty, but the windshield is still good. and these rims & tires are going on here. my steelies for the '55 showed up today, & i ordered 2 sets of these super cool 35" BFG Krawlers, one set will be hittin' the '55 |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
well, one good thing 'bout 3 clunkers on the go, always got a new picture....
speaking of, my diffs & t-case's came in today-yay!, now i can get back on the '55 for a bit....cant wait to hit it with some color also got some wide & narrow steelies, hope them krawlers get here soon heated the box on the dually & pulled it as far as it would go without distorting. thinking knock the box bulkhead out & going wider to get it out there that last bit. inside of the box will be slightly out of square, but i won't tell anyone.... removing the 2wd, and chopped the amt 1 piece chassis pan in half, starting on a frame for it started on the dually's int. tried something different, printed the gauges on a piece of photo paper instead of decal paper- dont know if i like it.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
really? you think so? ok, maybe i'll leave it alone.
ha-ha, success on the dually box! figure how i got the bulkhead off, here's the hole melted in the front of the box.... and there she be the wider bulkhead was under so much tension (even after i doubled it, 040 stock) it kept bowing no matter what i did or how much glue i dumped on it, so i finally just glued the angle in there, i'll put a bed mat in it & call it a day but first....looks like the trucks will be on hold for a couple hrs..... instead of sitting in my chair, i'm down to the wife's footstool..... if you got good eyes, there's the 454 for the dually started, turn signal lever on it's steering column, t-case lever & it's console installed, & drilled out a couple diffs & run metal threw them, for the '55 |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
went quadding last weekend & had an incident where i destroyed my camera so now i need to invest in another one.
the '55 i'm still waiting for the krawlers so i can set the ride height, the dually i have finished & painted the chassis & running gear, not so much on the ext-cab yet. was able to extract the sd card out of the camera, there was these 2 pics of the dually from last week on there, just the front springs are installed then. |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
hmmm, i dont know Dale, went and looked at camera's today, i think i would have rather had some bruises or broken bones & my old canon instead
the prices & the non-simplicity of them, i liked my old canon, 3 buttons, off/on, vid/pic, & a shutter button- nice & simple for a noob like me. lady at the store is going on about wifi this, mega byte-something that, how it will make coffee, change my underwear..... i think i kinda lost her when i pointed to a bunch of symbols on it & asked her whats this s**t for, before i could catch myself.... so i hit up CL & found a camera almost exactly like mine, has a little more zoom & a couple more megapixels (??) anyways, old guy owns it, looks brand new in the pics, has the box & all attachments, & costs less than a third of what the stores want- right up my alley going to go look at it tomorrow |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
today was a good day. back in business!
my "new" old camera panned out, perfect shape & it's like i already know how to use it and about $150 cheaper than the store to boot my old canon, 10 megapixel/10 zoom. lens shattered & when it bent it cracked the view screen & it's all rainbow colors now and something jammed the sd card in- took a bit to work it out without wrecking it.... OLD NEW OLD 12 megapixel/12 zoom, other than that, all the same and the postman dropped off a couple sets of these sweeeet bf's today final rim & tire combo, yeah, i like it.... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
did a little work on the dually while waiting for the bf's
did not realize how low i was on stock air cleaners of any kind, so i de-chromed a chrome open element cleaner, then super glued a strip of styrene around the filter. a tricky thing to do as it always wants to curl off 'till the glue sets....so you really have to hold it tight.....knife time again..... after i "removed" the cleaner from my finger, i made a short snorkel for it been trying different things on this truck too (gauges) tried something diff on the shocks. the wheels will be tucked in a little closer after i strip the paint off the axle ends, and the body still has some more sanding scratches to get rid of |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
thanks Dale!
yeah, it's like me, old & simple, but gets the job done....think the wife said something like that once found this neat-o little chain for a buck, should make good tailgate chains. started making rear leafs & rear axle for the '55.... ....cause the front is 90% there.... setback....did'nt even notice till i primed the 2 fronts-notice anything? 2 are 8 lug & 2 are 6 lug. contacted the guy & not only did he already ship 2 more 8 lugs, he threw 2 more six'ers in there so i'll have a 6 bolt set too-yeah! thumbs up to Danny at S.U.! |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
and the dually chassis is done except for mudflaps, steering column, & whatever else once the body is back on.
another setback- couple blobs of extra paint hit the body, waiting for it to cure so i can wet sand it down again color rhymes with crack plus side, i did find some really cool looking "shimmering blue metallic" paint for the ECSB today |

Lots of progress and they're looking great. When I was looking at the wheels, I didn't notice the difference. You can only see one side at a time. LOL Keep up the great work

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
was a nasty week at work on this blinking hotel, 10-12 hr days in 90+ heat (well over a hunnered on the roof) not much accomplished on the trucks, to beat after work....
but i'm hoping the other steelies show up this week, be needing them soon.... de-chromed the grill, bumpers, mirrors, etc & spent a couple hrs opening up the grill box is ready for paint, cab & hood have some touch-ups to finish chassis for the '55 is mostly there... |

Re: '64 chevy 2wd to 4wd
and forgot, some paint on the dually, needs to be detailed, sanded & cleared yet....
and yeah, too much junk on the go right now......but....cant......stop.....thinking.....'bout this one..... mpc snapper blaze, was going to do the usual, lift & tires. already got a '78 blaze, so i was going to cut off the whole roof & make a '73-'75 blaze. but the hood dont open, no engine, & one piece chassis, alotta slicin' & dicin'. if i'm going that far, i figure mite as well STRETCH it into a sub- something i dont have in the fleet. now i just need to find a donor cab....... |
