Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Quick Question. I recently started a new build on a 68 c20 Custom Camper. Internals and functionality is flawless but the body leaves something to be desired. Indiana truck...what can ya do?
I have an opportunity to purchase a good looking parts truck very close to home. 69 c20. The price is right. Will all of the body pieces fit my 68 c20 custom camper frame? Doors, hood, front and rear fenders, bumpers, bed, etc? I am a beginner and really don't have the capability of pulling the motor, otherwise, I would obviously do the opposite and just transplant the organs. Any advice you have would be much appreciated. Thanks |

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Fixed the tranny pan gasket on the new 68. thought it would be an easy gasket but once i pulled the pan i found one corner was dented up so i banged it back out straight. Then put the new gasket in and buttoned it up turns out the PO had striped out 2 of the bolt holes so i fixed those too. No more tranny leaks! Replaced some bulbs in the cab lights. Topped off all the fluids. Tomorrow ill powerwash all the gunk off the underside and start figuring out wiring some lights, some gauges, radio antenna etc... Never ends!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
pulled the complete sway bar assembly from the 67, and transplanted it to the 69. the ole behemoth has much better manners, but shes still a lil tipsy. i learned something important... cutoff wheel + angle grinder + BFH & punch = Rivet-B-Gone!

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I've been playing with the ZZ4 block for a couple of days.
From the numbers (and from looking), I found out it is a standard bore (350) 87-95 four bolt, one piece oil seal, roller cam block. No crank or rods or pistons, so it'll be a big $$$$ to get it to a 383. Next up, the 350 flat-tappet, two-piece, four bolt block from Tom. No usable rotating assembly on that one, either. But that looks like it wants to be a mild 350. One of these days, I'll figure out where to start. At least I have the 062 heads all done that'll work on either build. For right now, it's clean up the blocks and gather data.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Got my fuel lines replaced, vac lines hooked up, cap and wires installed, oil changed, charged battery in, and it runs! Kinda. Need to tweak the timing and carb adjustment, but it is progress.
Hope to have more things done this week.

Too much to think about during the initial start up, but I did take a short vid during the 25 minute break-in period.

Ordered the fabric and vinyl to get the seat redone, SMS Fabric carries the orange plaid and scroll work on the vinyl. This pic makes the seat look better than it is, drivers side is mostly gone.
