How in the heck are you able to work on it in this crazy stupid heat!?! It is killing me not working on the truck... I will be a bit this weekend though... I am at that point i need to add primer and start the final filler and well in this heat i cannot. So i will be installing Seam Sealer and POR15 in places. I can keep the shop door down, fans going and mini-split on to keep it around 80 inside maybe, otherwise i need to open the shop door to exhaust the paint fumes from the the primer..
Stay safe and cool sir.
I actually haven’t been in the shop much this week between being busy at work and the heat. The shop is pretty darn hot too, so i don’t mind the little break. I’ve got a handful of parts on order right now, so I’ll have plenty to do when it does cool down

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Over the last couple weeks i got some small stuff buttoned up. Lots of bouncing around on the frame while I wait for my brake kit to show up.

Rear sway bar loosely installed. Everything fit very well together with the QA1 kit!

Tank installed for hopefully the last time. Also got the new moser 5 lug axles and bearings/seals swapped into the rear end.

Front sway bar installed. Waiting to sandblast and paint my center drag link to get those steering components installed. Also i was able to get the new prebent brake lines laid out.

Have my fingers crossed that my brake kit shows up this week. I’m getting anxious to make this thing into a roller!

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Another small item checked off the list. Got my front suspension components installed. The centerlink is from a squarebody that i purchased from a member on this site. I was surprised how tough it was to locate one locally.

Started installing the new brake kit. Took awhile to come in but looks awesome. Something i didn’t realize was the rear rotors need bored to fit the axle hub and the axles need machined down to accept the rotors. Minor inconvenience, but the final install will have to wait until i get them into a shop.

Hey thanks. Slowly, it’s coming together. It’s actually the original 68 cross member. The QA1 kit works for both cross members i believe. The Only squarebody components On there are the drop spindles and the tie-rods/center link. Everything has gone together fairly smooth thus far!

Re: 67 SWB First Build

A few small updates to the chassis. I got the rear axles turned and the rotors bored. They fit get together. I did run into an issue though when installing the rear kit. The rotors would lock up when i snugged them up to the axle. I think the e-brake pads were too wide and catching on the inside of the rotor. For the time being I removed the e-brake and everything turns as it should. I’ll look into it later on down the road.

I also installed my in-tank fuel pump and sending unit. Nothing too crazy complicated there. I plan on running EFI so I set up the fuel system accordingly. This includes 3/8” fuel hose and a pressure regulator with a return line. Again, nothing too difficult, just took time figuring out all the parts and pieces i would need.

A few small things to finish up on the chassis before i hopefully dive into the transmission and engine. That should be a good winter project i imagine. Ideally I’ll get those items installed and then be able to throw the body back on for the last time.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

All is looking very nice and like it will handle nicely. Did you have to drill any holes for the rear sway bar or did all the brackets bolt in using existing holes? It looks like a nice setup.

Thanks. I believe the rear sway bar did use existing holes. If I remember correctly, the holes in the rear crossmember had rivets for the old shock mounts.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

More small things to check off the to do list for the chassis.

Re-bent the stainless steel brake line. If i were to do this again, I think i would not have used stainless steel, as it was much tougher to flare. Also, I welded new tabs for the brake line. I think it came out decent.

Installed some exhaust pass throughs in the cross member. I was leaning towards just using pipe and welding, but I didn’t think my welder was big enough for that thick of steel. Found this kit online and was pretty straight forward for the install.

Last big update other than installing a new red head power steering box was trying these wheels on for size. A friend of my father in law asked if I’d be interested in his old wheels. He’s offering me a deal that is hard to turn down. Their 18x12 in the rear and 18x10 in the front. The fronts just barely clear the lower control arm and the rears are going to require widers tubs to play it safe. The tires have only a couple hundred miles on them, too.

Needless to say, i have new tubs on order. Wasn’t the exact route I was planning but after looking at them more, I think they’ll get the job done and should make for nice cruising.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

New tubs showed up after Christmas so i took the time this weekend to get them mostly installed. Plenty of room now for the rear tires. Toughest part was just modifying the floor rib to fit the outside tub lip.

Still need to prime the last wheel tub and do a little more bodywork on the fender wheel well lip. Getting there, slowly but surely.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Still trying to narrow down a weekend to get my engine put together, so in the meantime I started cleaning up my vent windows. The original chrome seemed to clean up really nice after using some 0000 steel wool. All the pieces were scuffed/cleaned and painted. I replaced all of the seals with precision rubber that I ordered from GMC pauls. Using some Youtube videos helped a lot with the reassembly. The toughest part seemed to be getting the rubber into the corner of the frame. Onward and forward!

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Been busy with work and projects around the house. I’ve managed to make a little progress on the project. I cleaned up and repainted the engine block and heads chevy orange. My dad and i installed the valves in the heads and hung the rods on the pistons. Next up is to check clearances on the block.

I’ve also been slowly sanding the high build primer on everything. Everything Is looking straight with very minor touch up areas.

Re: 67 SWB First Build

Small update. I’ve been busy cleaning the shop and getting everything ready for paint. My indoor paint booth took some time to install but should help keep any contaminants out of the paint. Also took my core support and some random pieces to a local powder coater. I’m very pleased with how they turned out. It’s nice to finally have atleast a few things ready for final install

Plan is to paint the inside fenders, inside the doors, underside hood, firewall and interior to start. Then I’ll install all the panels and prep to paint the exterior.

Core support turned out nice, as did the miscellaneous pieces.

Looking forward to sharing my paint color choice. I picked it up the other weekend. Hopefully will get to spraying in the coming weeks. Have a great (and safe) Memorial Day weekend.
