Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Small Update....
Had a friend deliver this Driveshaft earlier today, will possibly fit, if not it can be shortened alot cheaper than stretching the original.... Now I get to sandblast and paint, then new U-joints and the correct yoke for the 5 speed... Here's a pic of the Patina I rock daily

When I checked into lengthening the original driveline 3" I was quoted $250, and to shorten one is $65... Called a friend who grew up with a mutual friend who now has a boneyard of mostly mid 80s to mid 90s Chevy Trucks... Long story short, I ended up spending $25 for a drive shaft that may work, or worse case scenario, may need to be shortened an inch. Either way $100 is much better than $250 or more... And finally, here's one by "Cartoons" Artist George Trosley... Uploaded with ImageShack.com

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Nice results on the patch welding. When it gets to the primer stage one thing I’ve found to be a big labor savings is the use of U-Pol 2K primer:
http://www.u-pol.com/product-cat/28/...r-%2831%29.htm My first coat on the bare metal is always epoxy primer, even before any filler. Once I’m ready for the fill primer I use the U-Pol. Rather than spray it on, I apply it with either a small foam roller or a foam brush. I’ve done some pretty large sections with this technique. And in some areas I’ve built it up enough to avoid needing body filler: It naturally doesn’t come out as smooth as spraying, but it’s going to get sanded down anyway. Brushing it on eliminates the need for masking everything else, which is a big plus when you’re working on something that is put together. And since all of the paint goes on the item instead of in the air and on the floor, brushing saves a lot of paint and keeps the aerosol fumes out of your lungs. It is easy to apply, cures in about 10-15 minutes, and is the easiest sanding primer I’ve ever found. To keep from clogging the paper, rather than wet sand I use an air hose in my off hand to blow the paper continuously clean. And like other 2K primers there isn’t any shrinkage like with the old lacquer primers. The first time I bought it I purchased a roll on kit, but since then I’ve found it easier to source the pieces locally: http://autobodystore.net/Merchant2/m...egory_Code=PRI When I went looking for bedliner/undercoater I found the Raptor kit. Having the U-Pol name on it caused me to buy it without further investigation. One minor point I also love about this European product is the can it comes in. Rather than the common design of all domestic cans, the version U-Pol uses opens very easily, and closes with hand pressure. It’s a much better design, but we’ll probably never see any American made products in it. Keep up the good work!

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
Just testing a resize photo app on my phone while I wait for Wife at Dr Appt...
Just read the thread from Liz about the need to resize pics in order to post via the site... So here goes, this is pic of my project, from a while back, that I found in my phone's photo album...resized to 638x480 Didn't work, I ended up with an error telling me the file size was too big... 2cd attempt will be with pic sized down even more...539x410 It worked, but the time and effort involved has me now considering a permanent solution like imageshack or photobucket... This was done on my phone, but I use my camera also and haven't tried resizing on the macbook yet... Posted via Mobile Device Posted via Mobile Device

I use Photobucket, have to make sure you don't go over the 10GB bandwidth thing otherwise all your pics go blank.
Wish I could figure out the site pic deal especially sending/posting pics from the phone. That is Way cool Man |

Re: Donz '65 SWB Stepper Budget Build...
For what it’s worth, I’ve been using Imageshack for six years. It’s very easy to use once the procedures are familiar. The only negative has been their “undocumented feature” of randomly dropping your photos, breaking your forum links. About every 6 months I would have to spend several days restoring all the missing photos.
About a month ago they dropped about 30% of my photos, which adds up to hundreds of pictures and broken links. They have an announcement on the website when you log in mentioning they’ve messed up the photos, and that they will all be restored soon. Weeks later nothing has been fixed. I tried switching to Photobucket but met with some technical problem that wouldn’t let me access any of the links. in trying to resolve that problem I discovered that many long term Photobucket users are very unhappy with the site since a recent major renovation eliminated most of the preferred features. So I tried to see what is most popular right now. Flickr seems to be most in demand at the moment. I signed up, and the links did work after figuring out how to navigate the site. A test post on my build thread worked, so I intend to completely rebuild at least my build thread and a few other technical threads using Flickr. I’m holding up for a few weeks however to see if Imageshack does restore any of the missing photos/links as promised. Having the images in place will save me days of research trying to identify which pictures are missing. If they still haven’t accomplished anything after another month, I’ll just do it the hard way. I'm really sorry to be leaving Imageshack as it's been very simple to do exactly what I want, but most of these photo host sites are now trying to compete in the Facebook socializing world (which I have no interest in). This shift in priorities seems to be hurting the basic functionality of all of the legacy photo hosting sites.
