I new I could finish the stepside quicker and was frankly tired of it lookin the way it did Im gonna take my time on this one and with each one this being my 3rd complete rebuild I think you learn more and more of what you want the outcome to be as long as we don't keep "going in a different direction"
I have already argued with myself over going the LS direction. I won the argument with logic... I picked up the remaned SB 350 and 2 700R4s for real short money some years ago and had the tranny rebuilt already 2 years ago ....I have thought about swapping out the front engine cradle cross member with a coil over unit to replace the tubular A arms etc. but logic won out I plan on spending the $$$s on paint and interior ...thanks for stopping by on this one Im looking forward to getting back at it

Hard to find a cab like that in my area, I'd be time and money ahead if I could!

Re: The Doc & Kim 69 build

I purchased a Flowmaster stainless exhaust kit back in early 2019 ( post 208 ) I half installed it and needed to do some custom work to hook the shorty headers to it all ...short story can't find a shop with a mandrill bender to bend so my welder friend came by today and we put a plan together to start to fab from the headers to the H pipe and realized the trans crossmember will interfere luckily I found this on Speedway will be my third Trans CM for this build but we can clear the new Trans CM and head back through the trailing arm CM ....stay tuned

I just bought and installed this Speedway xmember. It has tons of adjustability built into it. The only down side I can see so far is the speedo cable connection on the tail of the transmission might not clear the edge of the xmember. I haven't installed the cable yet in mine, but it's really close.

Im going to send this over to Scott thanks for your advice and info
got the CM mocked up today I had a old speedo cable and every thing looks fine lined up with cable on the 700r4. Im going to try and get all cables E brake etc I had routed and hooked up as much as I can before I put the cab back on...also had the drive shaft shortened and balanced a few inches seeing I set the motor back with the newer mounts I have a little less than two of my fat fingers between the distributor and the fire wall instead four and my thumb

Re: The Doc & Kim 69 build

so I got this all mocked up cut outs and all... hoping my double braided stainless flex pipes holds up. I can't find a mandrel bender local and my welder although very good was shying from fabing the transition from the headers ...so I did the heavy lifting for him and now he has a whole lot of butt welding to do where I put the temp lap joint clamps ...will see

Re: The Doc & Kim 69 build

Been a while since I checked in. Everything's looking great! Gotta love sharing the truck with your grandson!

I was looking at your trailing arm crossmember in detail because that is one thing on my truck that I feel still needs work, especially with the two piece driveshaft. On your truck, with the engine set back and the 700r4 you would have a comically short first driveshaft if you did a two piece!

Funny you sat that I had a 72 LWB with original 402 PO installed a 700r4 with a single what I thought was a VERY LONG single shaft

Re: The Doc & Kim 69 build

so I spent some time last night tightening the header bolts I clocked the MINI starter I clocked it way from the header and closer to the block and reinstalled it. I put a temp positive battery and ground cable hooked up a starter button to the starter purchased a new battery today and was able to crank the motor ......progess I have to make sure when I fire it off the trans (700r4)cooling lines are tied together and detent cable is in. Ill only fire it off for a moment until I hook the radiator up or I might get some patience and wait until I can run it with temporary oil pressure and temp gauges hooked up.. that's a better plan I need to convince myself of that ... we will see
