Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Oh and today I found out that I got the wrong slip yoke. The front yoke on the driveshaft is 1350 series and the slip yoke is 1310 series. I'm aware that they make u joints with one end bigger than the other but i think I'll just sell this one and make a couple bucks and then go back to picknpull and pay 7.99 for the right one

Today I decided to look at the passenger rocker/floors. Here's what it looked like when I removed the door sill plate.

Some evidence that this bondo hack-job was done by the previous owner

Rocker/inner rockers cut out. In the next couple of days whenever I have the time I will start on making the repair panels

Yeah, not sure why but my passenger side is much worse than the drivers side.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
The metal mesh makes a little sense but I don't know what they where thinking with the newspaper. Lol maybe he didn't have a garbage bin close by and thought it would be easier to just throw it in the open rocker.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Finished pulling out the passenger rocker today to reveal that the rust on the lower A pillar is much worse than the driver side. The patch panel is over $50 where I live and being on a budget I guess I'm going to build it. Oh well, more practice with metalworking.

You really do continue to impress me.
That is a whole load of heartache you opened up there, but I am sure you will just get on and do it right, Well done.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Thanks Rian, your right about the heartache part but I like to look at it as just metal, if lmc makes replacement panels why can't I? It's All about believing I can do it, if I think I can't do it then I probably can't.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
Removed the rusted lower door pillar to find even more rust. This is going to be a fun one. Had to use a jack to hold the pillar in place so nothing will move.

Some more progress on the lower pillar. Not quite done, but it's taking shape.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
I also brought my tires to the auto shop at my school to get them mounted but only got as far as taking the old ones off as I got the wrong sized valve stems. Suprisingly all of the tires had tubes in them even though the tires said tubeless.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside
That was very common to do in those days. I guess we old folks didn't trust this tubeless thing.
The metal work is looking very good.
