Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures
After a 2 year search I am finally able to post a pic of my first ever Suburban, GMC and 60-66 year truck. Owner was not even selling it so had to spend a few months talking him in to it. It's a CA Burb built at the Numi plant in Fremont CA. Have only had it one month but since owning it I have already installed the headlight relay harness purchased from Baron at VH Coachworks (quality product and what a difference in illumination at night) and I'm only using the Sylvania Halogen sealed beams.
Few details: - 454 Big block - 700R4 auto - Posi 12 bolt rear end - All three original bench seats though not currently running the middle bench - VDO guages - Classic air Currently on the hunt for a set of four (or 2 for now) 15x6, 6x5.5 Steelies from the 71-87 year Chevy/GMC trucks (yeah they are kinda hard to find) The Mickey Thompsons currently on it are nice but not my style - they will go up for sale once I find the steelies.

Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures
Thanks for sharing. I really like the black & silver '60 Suburban. The one piece side windows are a nice touch. I have seen this before only 1 or 2 times. I can imagine the difficulty in a restoration like this overseas.

Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures
Update since owning the Burb for about 3 months now. 6 lug steelies all around - 15x6 stockers up front, 15x8 rear with GMC sprint caps and switched front GMC letters to the earlier style.
Before After Before After

Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures
Yes sir - changed all four headlights to Sylvania Halogen sealed beams, installed the heavy duty wiring harness from VH coachworks (great lighting upgrade), changed the parking lights to clear lenses with yellow bulbs and then hit the highbeams with yellow duplicolor metalcast.

Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures
Here's something different;
This Burb has served, back in the day, as an EMT vehicle in Israel (what is known here as Magen David)- see it in a period photo: Later sold, and was left to rot somewhere in Jerusalem, last year it was rescued and made drive-able again. I took it's photo in May, and it looked like this: Well, some weeks ago the new owner was finished with its restoration and a ceremony (organized by the local classic cars club) was held upon which the Burb was revealed, together with modern EMTs on site...: Now, a personal note: I have a special relation to this Burb, as it was owned by my Mom's uncle! I was not aware of this at the time, otherwise you would have seen a "my new Burb" thread... and not an EMT restoration but a more modified Burb, something along the lines of this Burb, which was also at the event: However, I feel that it's very responsible of the current owner to restore the Burb to its service days' looks- it is a part of Israel's past and nowadays, NOBODY thinks about preservation of these vehicles, except private individuals. |

Re: Let's post 60-66 SUBURBAN Only Pictures
^^^ Very cool! While the outside looks great, I can't help but wonder why there wasn't more attention to detail under the hood. Regardless, I like the fact that it was kept as an ambulance. Think of all the stories that thing could tell if it could talk!

Very cool.
I sure think that spare was meant to be mounted under the rear deck...considering the custom rear bumper. I Beautiful, none the less.

I was looking at it all wrong that other door is to the frt and that spare tire is mounted forward. I was looking at it, thinking automatically that the spare would have been mounted to the back. I guess that the thought may be that if they did get a flat that the s-pare would be a lot more readily available up top if they needed to change a tire in a hurry ron Last edited by padresag; 01-03-2014 at 01:52 AM. |
