guys. Funny thing is I have an LS1 sitting in the 61 that I almost decided to throw in there... Decided to go the non-obvious route instead.

Oh yeah, forced induction is not off the table as a future upgrade. I'll get it running NA first.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Why do I have such a difficult time believing this statement??
Yeah, you know the first deal that is the proverbial "too good to pass up" gets made and in it goes no matter what point the project is at. "Well, you know it will be easier to do this now because this can be made to fit now instead of going back into it later and this will........" I couldn't believe that statement if I made it either. Man, I tell you what, small cars, much less imports don't do much for me, and in all honesty I'd rather be watching your Tahoe build, but you make this way cool and a very enjoyable diversion from the other. Keep up the great work!!

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
, ya you know too well. But the reason I said forced induction is bc I'm leaning toward SC. Ya, ya, maybe not quite the potential of a turbo, but much more easily retrofit. Thanks for the kind words. I miss the tahoe more than anyone. It does have quite the parts pile built up including a number of parts on the way from Porterbuilt.
Gotta get this one driving first. Because as much as I love my 64, I'd rather drive it by choice/truck-work, rather than as a primary form of transpo... which is what it has become lately. |

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Thanks guys. I finally have some time off coming up so I can make some real progress on it!
I've been spending what little time I've had doing house and shop projects. One of which was to remote my air compressor to the "Aux-Shop" and run 220 and airline between the two buildings; 90+ feet. Still need to roto-hammer some holes to mount the compressor and tool stand, then finish plumbing the air. But the Minx will get some love this weekend Last edited by Frizzle Fry; 10-27-2009 at 06:39 PM. |

Just heading to the shop now. Wanted to post one thing:
I discovered that the previous series Minx (Series V) had a gauge cluster with round gauges. Just gotta get my hands on one and I can transplant the RSX internals/Faceplates and look like this: From this: Using These: |

Is that the dash you want? I ran across it literally 30 seconds before coming back to reread this. I though about calling the guy to go take a look for a second. If you have a hard time finding a dash and you convince this guy to sell you his i could probably go grab some better pictures for you. Last edited by Mister laugh; 10-30-2009 at 05:15 PM. |

The Super Minx is a different body style from the Minx. The gauges look like they may be the same but the panel looks different. Thanks for posting it anyway!

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Thanks 61TWUK, glad you like it
I've been doing a lot of side projects for people and working on getting the shop better set up. I finally rotohammered the floor last night (neighbors loved that ) so I can bolt down the multi-tool stand and air compressor. There's some wiring and plumbing left to do but not much. On the Minx, I have the steering column/firewall pass-through fab'ed up and ready to weld into the firewall. Also, it looks like I have a line on a set of the round gauges ...and the steering rack dilemma may be solved by using a set-up similar to this: |

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Small but significant update: I just brought home a steering rack from British Auto-Works. It's from a 75-80 manual steering Triumph TR7/8 and if all goes well I'm going to run it with a fab'ed center link as pictured in the previous post. FYI; the same rack came in the TR7 and TR8. The TR8 had the rover V8, so I'm confident that it will be stout enough for my application. There are also aftermarket quick ratio versions available if I later decide I need it.

Re: '66 Sunbeam Minx Project - F20C/6sp/4-link/Discs...
Yep, progress is good This steering rack has been a tough one to beat, but the ball is rolling in the right direction now. I worked on it last night. Came up with a solution for replacing the tie rods with solid/non-pivoting stubs. Pics to come...
Just ordered some CNC equipment linear motion components so I can add some linear tracking for increased stability similar to the RRS unit: I mocked up the PS suspension again and mounted the S2000 rack. I will be temp-installing some referencing gauges to allow me to replicate the factory Honda tie rod placement. AND ...Thanks to Don Haas I have this on the way as of today: |
