Re: Project: Blank Slate

Next time you're in the area, or if I'm in KS, I'll take you for a spin and let you stick your head out the window.

Let me know I'm always ready for a drive. Talk about a luck dog, you're ended up with the banner from the Nat's... one year.

I will definitely take you up on that ride. I don't know about sticking my head out though.

Will let you know when i get closer your way. I was the lucky dog that weekend. Don't worry, you might win one next year. But your truck looks better than mine at the moment.

Re: Project: Blank Slate

Nate - I just read through 14 pages, and loved every minute of it! Thanks for documenting it all - That is one sweet "Blank Slate"!

Lolife - I love the grinding on the lower A-arms, just wish I would have read the thread before I painted and installed mine on Project C.S.T.

Nothing an afternoon in the shop and a 6-pack can't handle!

Thanks! Yeah I had a few reservations with letting the 4-legged boy in the truck but hey you only live once, might as well enjoy it.

The ride following the drop is phenominal. When I had first mentioned my plan of lowering the truck my FIL figured the ride quality would suffer. With his bad back he figured his days of riding in the '69 would be few and far between. Once the truck was lowered, I took him for a spin and he was truly amazed with the smooth ride of the truck.

Currently I'm running without bumpstops on the rear of the truck and have only bottomed out once. That being said, when I bottomed out it was at the end of a bridge (on the dual dual), with a dip at the end, and I was pushing the truck pretty hard. The ride quality is just as good as it was before I lowered, and now the truck has more of an aggressive stance, with more of an attitude.

Re: Project: Blank Slate

Nate,
I'm new to this forum, I just recently discovered this thread, and have read "Blank Slate" with great interest. Your truck is really awesome!!! The Build info has been very inspiring for my own efforts.

I have aquired an 1969 GMC short bed fleet in mostly original condition. It is a small block 307 & Powerglide tranny. It was a farm truck for 38 years based just outside Hot Springs, Arkansas. The guy I bought it from had it painted light Green. I believe this is the original color, however I think it was originally a two-tone, light green/white like yours. When I had the windshield replaced, I found white paint at the sides and top of the windshield seat. The suspension, brakes and steering need rebuilding. I will convert to disc fronts like you did. I have ordered the disc brake kit with 2 1/2" dropped spindles with 3" drop springs in the back. I ordered everything from Early.

Great thread, I will post pics of my 69 GMC.

Yeah I changed the avy a week or so ago, just needed a change. The weather has been horrible so there's not chance of getting the truck out in the salt and grime on these MO roads, so I'm stuck with this one.
