Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
I am a boob !! I was having shielding gas flow issue the other day not contamination. There was some buildup in my nozzle on one side so I was not getting sufficient flow when welding from right to left. Why didn't I check that ?? Duh!

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
Okay where was I ?? Did some more welding on the exhaust cut outs once I flipped the frame. The problem I was having welding was that my nozzle was partially clogged so once I let go of the trigger my last weld would pit on the top so I ground out the pitted top welds and went back over them. lots more pics/progress to come!

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
Next I had to grind off my partially pitted top welds and finish the frame repair. Still need to smooth the out side and box later. Once it is a rolling chassis it will be going to Merle's frame and alignment to verify the frame is straight then I will box and add a big notch.

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
Borrowed the super duper suspect press to remove my trailing arm bushings. I need to order some energy susp bushings and have yet to take the trailing arms and front control arms to the blasters. busy busy!!

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
I have been busy at school and this major home improvement... Cost me a few Porterbuit Drop Members... But hey no more panicking when the tornados come. It is in the garage floor but flush, well maybe 1/2 above the floor and you can park over and actually on it.

Apparently I'm the only Oklahoman on this forum that doesn't have crazy metal working skills. Really neat build thread, Dan!

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
I bought some new control arm U bolts but the only ones available are the 73+ version (Napa pn 650-4065) which are 9/16 vs the old 7/16? so I had to drill out the holes. Snapped one drill bit then bought another. What else could go wrong with this truck?!

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
So I mocked it all back up with a new Moog shaft and went to welding it all back in.

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
Thanks Steve, I have read all of your builds and I think you do a fine job! I am just a noob. hope to have this turd on the road in a few months, well maybe by spring. That will be before paint work obviously I may do some primer myself but a driver anyway I hope. I will be contacting you about that Biscayne seat soon. Later

Nice work and nice tornado shelter. Isn't it crazy how all the little things you think will be easy end up eating up huge amounts of time?

Re: Rustbuket 67 build "Georgia"
Looking good! I had a broken one of those pins also but I was lazy and just stuck a bolt in there. Does not look nearly as nice as yours! Something that I discovered was that if you cut the U bolts with a hack saw shorter (as my biggest pet peeve of all time is threads sticking out of a nut, weird I know) and then unscrew the nut to just a little below flush you can grind with a flap disc (I use 120 grit) the hack saw marks off and then magically you have a shorter bolt. Then you just unscrew the nut off the rest of the way and I very lightly sand with the disc the radius of the bolt and yuo would never know it from a factory shorter one. Obviously you have to paint it then but I do not trust that gold zinc coating anyways. Just a suggestion, do what you want though! I like how you welded around these stands also. Good idea and I wish I had done that.

My daughter wants to help me so here she is: ngmjdhuyejuuihkhblhkghkdjhuhkkhhkhjhk. She wanted the purple one, the monkey and the flag
