Re: Project Penicillin~ 68 crewcab build up!
Seats are done and mounted. The rear seat has a little problem of wanting to flip up All mounts are built out of 1/8" and 3/16" plate and have welded nuts for mounting ease. The rear also has two slide in mounts just below the rear window that the back of the seat drops into. It can not be a bolted mount since when you flip the seat up the back rest moves due to a cam type lock system.

Final shots for now! More to come after a few other projects get their turn.
The center bracket is for the child seat mounts. The drivers side mount had to be sectioned 1 3/4". Kevin LFD Inc. Last edited by Rokcrln; 06-25-2006 at 09:16 PM. |

Re: Project Penicillin~ 68 crewcab build up!
Kevin,
Looks good, the extended cab rear seat seems like it was made to fit in the truck if GM had ever made a truck like this from the factory. I like the fact that the seat folds up against the back of the cab when it is not in use. Thanks |

I've been gone for a while, and that was the best three pages I've read all summer. What a fantastic job you do Kevin. You are a hero to just about everyone on the forum.

Re: Project Penicillin~ 68 crewcab build up!
couple quick questions:
has anyone ever tried the ext. cab rear seat as their primary cab seat (single cab?) i think they are usually "thinner" seats, perhaps allowing for more tummy/leg room? any thoughts? would they be comfy?

Re: Project Penicillin~ 68 crewcab build up!
cstanley, that is a good question, one that I would like to have answered as well. I am over 6'3" and don't have a tummy(180 lbs.), but my legs/back start to hurt after a while of being kinda cramped in the stock bench seat.

Do not even think about it! The back of the seat is non adjustable and very up right. The seat bottom is flat and short so the back side of your thigh would be very sore after a short drive. It is fine for a back seat that you know going in the back door that it is not as good as a front seat. But I really think it would make for a bad front. Also it must fasten to the back of the cab so you would need to have the gas tank somwhere else. Just my $.02 but I have thought about it and long since forgot about it as well! Kevin LFD Inc. |

Re: Project Penicillin~ 68 crewcab build up!
As of now the truck is gone! It will be getting media blasted and sealed then come back to my shop in a few months. Right now I am finishing up a few things on his extended cab (roof, frame, seats, extended rockers and cab corners. Then starting next week will be the start of project Lemon Drop a sweet 68 step side show truck!!! It will be getting all metal finished and ready for paint.

Re: Project Penicillin~ 68 crewcab build up!
Does the 4TH door open? Did the build include using a Suburban? Is it a long bed or short? It looks like a short bed to me but I have been wrong before. What frame are you using and what engine and trans? I am getting ready to do some more work on the crew cab just my daughter having kids makes it tough.

Re: Project Penicillin~ 68 crewcab build up!
No I didn't buy it back, he sold it on Ebay, I built it though, can't remember the wheelbase, was on a stock 72 Suburban frame, stretched it about 24" and cut about a foot off the rear. 4th door was a dummy door, look at my signature to see what I was running in it.
