Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
Well I got bored since my trucks not here to work on so I took an old valve cover that I took off and decided to paint it. I also wanted to paint my old air cleaner. It was very rusty so but the chrome on the edelbrock was good so I masked off the edelbrock and painted the rest.
Before of valve cover: Aircleaner painted: Valve cover painted and them both hung on my wall. I took a peice of wood and put on the back and stuck a bolt through it and now I can hang it like a picture. I think they both turned out great. Also was at the mall the other day and bought some sticker for the new back glass when I get it. This is how it will sit on the glass.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
Man i would take that chrome water neck back and get an alum one. I've always had bad luck with the chrome ones chipping and rusting. maybe that's because I buy the cheap one.
but I like the valve cover and air cleaner. looks good.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
Went to the salvage yard today. It was under new management. The new owner is great and I even got to drive back in there. Anyway here is what I got.
LH and RH 80's headlight bezel. LH and RH headlights with chrome trim. New almost perfect tailgate. (I have 3 tailgates now.) It all cost me 30$ cause I had my gf with me and he gave me the "pretty girl" discount.

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
lookin good!Great to see younger guys taking an interest in a project like this.I will warn you though that that intake is a single plane and will kill the low end power of your 327.If you're planning on building a real screamer then it will probably suit it,but on a stock engine it may be kinda disappointing.Check out the numbers on weiands site and you will most likely see that the rpm range of that intake is from around 2500-7000.Now compare that to a dual plane intake and it will be from 1500-6500ish.I guess it depends on what you are using the truck for,but for a fairly stock daily driver I would be looking for a decent dual plane intake and save the single plane for the firebreathing smallblock you will be building in the future.JMHO.
BTW I love the shifter idea!Especially the handwritten shift pattern insert.kudos

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
Thanks man! I like seein comments like that. As for the intake I looked it up before I bought it so I know the RPM range and I should've got a different one but I want a screamer. lol.
Update: Went and got the truck today and drove it home under its own power It leaked a bunch of oil on the headers though. Idk why. It also needs the clutch adjusted. lol. I also went and bought some new parts without informing my father I love new parts. -Edelbrock 600cfm carb -MSD Streetfire HEI distributor -WIX fuel filter -Felpro gasket -Mr. Gasket carb studs -Super Blue gasket silicone All hidden away for now. I hope to put it all in this weekend!

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
Fixed the oil leak. It was coming from the valve cover. I put the gasket maker on both sides. The heads say 46262. Whats this mean?

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
good luck... once you get it to turn over just pull a plug wire and check for spark (dont get shocked) and if you have spark then dump some fuel down the carb... if you dont have spark check the hot wire to the distributor.. and go from there... you got a new distributor right? just drop that in if you dont have spark but you have power to the dizzy... saves you alot of trouble

Re: 1980 chevy long bed!
The engine starts and runs like a top. Its the electric wires and **** to the starter that are crappy and the problem. Its stressing me out.
