Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

I'm going to grind everything down smooth tomorrow and work on the front crossmember. Also going to start the engine cleanup. Keep having family activities getting in the way of working on the truck

Jason did it quickly while I wasn't there and it looks good and the rocker lines up nicely with the cab corners and the groove in the cab and around the door weatherstrip groove. I asked him and he didn't test fit the door, so we might have some issues but I will check it out as soon as I get the cab tipped up and on the frame.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Well, I was planning on a longer day today but had other things come up. I got about two and a half hours in this afternoon. However, I picked up a good set of control arms that just need a little more attention and they will be good to go. Got three of the four stripped down clean and will do the last one tomorrow.

Also spent a few minutes cleaning up the inside of the crossmember. Got it looking good. Drilled the holes for the upper bag brackets in it and then wiped it down to prep for paint. Wiped down the control arms and bag brackets also so I'll shoot those first thing tomorrow when I go over to the garage.

Started grinding on the cab where the rockers and cab mounts were installed to clean those up. Stopped to ask Jason how far he wanted me to take them until final body work. Just did part of one side..will tackle the rest of that later. Hope he's going to get the last cab mount in tonight. Then I'll be able to prep, prime, and undercoat the cab.

Also started grinding on the block. Got most of the old paint off and started grinding all of the slag off of it. Got some parts nice and smooth. Will work on that more tomorrow as well. Left the camera in the garage so no pictures until tomorrow

Great progress. Keep your head up. Talented hard workers will always be able to find work. Now get back out there and work on that truck!

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Got a decent amount done but still have a long way to go...keep on having interruptions. But got around 4 hours in today. Here are a few pictures and I will post more later.

Got some A-arms from camtoys1 (mike) that he's chemically stripped. Still had a little undercoating on them but really saved me a lot of time.

Before and after

Closeup of a cleaned upper arm

Cleaned up lower A-arm...still have to take the bumpstop bracket off...

Before and after on the lowers

Tools used to remove the bumpstop bracket. Drilled out the spot welds then used the air chisel to pry it off.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

Started cleaning/grinding the engine down. Want to make it nice and smooth because I will be painting it to match the truck.

The numbers on the block really showed up well after wire wheeling all the old paint off.

Started here but you can see some of the slag/rough areas on the block around the oil filter

Smoothed out...going to do a little more before paint.

Should have taken more before and afters...

This corner was very rough before

Got the intake off...looks clean in there and I plan to keep it that way...

Will do a little more grinding on the block later. Didn't want to do it today with all the freshly painted parts laying around the shop floor.

Thanks, it took long enough...even with all the prep done it was still about 4 hours between taking off the brackets, grinding them, prepping, priming, and painting.

Re: 1970 VA Longbed Project

NO PICTURES!

However, I picked up a 5 lug rear with 373 gears, and freshened up with new seals/bearings from mike (camtoys1)

The best part of the rear are the glock's brackets with CROSS-drilled rotors and nice big calipers.
Going to have 4 wheel cross drilled discs!!!!

Yep, either doing coys C5, Torque thrust, Foose nitrous 2, or the new design Boss 338's....whatever I find the best deal on

Going to sell the billet wheels to help finance the final details of the project. Doesn't make sense to have a $4K set of billet wheels and skimp on the paint and interior.
