Re: Project: Mistress
Sorry to hear your selling, but you have to do what you have to do. So does that mean the burb will be the new and slightly larger mistress?

Re: Project: Mistress
Since buying my burb, I have neglected the Mistress over the past several weeks....so we had a 60 degree day here yesterday so I took her out....
I told my wife when I got back....I had forgotten how spunky this truck is.....took it for a 60 mile cruise....filled her up before putting her back in the garage....got 12.88 miles/ gal....not bad for keeping my foot out of it The truck sounded great, looked great, and went straight down the road at 60mph (sometimes 70 mph)

Re: Project: Mistress
UPDATE: Going to pull the engine this weekend to regasket and hopefully stop all the little leaks (probably something I should of done the first time, but heck it wasn't leaking!!!) Nobody wants to buy a nice looking truck that's leaking oil!!!
I'll post up pictures of the weekend adventures

Re: Project: Mistress
Sounds like a good plan....are you going to repaint the engine after re-gasketing? Probably will be that last touch needed to really prep it for sale....

Re: Project: Mistress
One thing I think you should do is get a ton of high quality pictures taken of the truck and post those as a photobucket link or similar....You're asking good money so people are going to want to see why they should pay that much. The truck is worth it, but the higher quality pics will help show that...
I haven't looked recently (been too busy) but have you had it on ebay yet? They have the free classifieds now that show up in the search results....

Re: Project: Mistress
Check out the free classifieds for sure though...if you set it up properly (offer to assist with shipping anywhere) it'll open up the truck to a worldwide market. Even though this site has huge traffic, many/most are DIY type guys...you need to hit the market where the buy it built guys reside
I'd get a quote from Heavymetalchevy's guy for shipping to a couple spots nationwide then quote a range so people aren't scared off by shipping. I've had people tell me it costs upwards of 2500 to ship a vehicle...and while it certainly can (or more) it can also be done for around 1000-1200 if someone is already headed that way or has an empty trailer on the way to or back from somewhere....

Re: Project: Mistress
As promised, pictures of the engine removal to regasket the bottom side of the engine....noticed a considerable amount of oil coming from the timing chain cover and seal, so decided this was the best route for me..especially to clean the x-member and frame up too...on with the pictures
1. She's ready for the work to begin 2. Lots of prep work before pulling the engine (most this work done Friday night) 3. Engine out (big shout out to member 'frednoah' for letting me use the engine leveler)...This was late Saturday morning...dang rain!!! 4. Engine waiting for the stand...did also notice lots of oil coming from the rear corners of both valve covers...I had even used the permadry valve cover gaskets...I guess they didn't seat that well!!! 5. After cleaning the block up and running to the parts store 3 times, finally the right one piece pan gasket (whoever built this engine before put a 75 oil pan on a 73 block!!!)...and looky there...4 bolt main!

Re: Project: Mistress
So after contemplating a little, I decided to paint the block black....the work continues
1. cap #'s 2. 010 High nickel block 3. aluminum foil, newspaper, painters tape, and semi-gloss engine black...ta-da!!! 4. the other side...ta-da 5. Here she goes back in on Sunday afternoon...this is where the trouble started First issue was the passenger motor mount....completely stripped out, so had to re-tap and install..what a pain in my arse!!!....It took me all evening to get it off, re-tap, reinstall, then get the engine down and bolted in....

Re: Project: Mistress
Rolled the truck back in the garage...then over the next 2 weeks, tried to get her back together between baby stuff, Easter, and work!!!....
Finally, pushed her back out in the drive, hit the key, and wooossshhhh....the dang starter completely sheared the cap off???...I guess I didn't tighten those starter bolts down tight enough So back and forth to the parts store only to find out that even shimming didn't help!!! Lucky, I have a good friend and member 'brn agn' coming up for the Autofair...so I fed him a nice steak dinner in exchange to help me get her started so I could get her over to the Autofair and sell her!!!!....Jesse is an awesome guy and is very helpful to a rookie like me with these trucks....we shimmed the starter, re-timed the engine (back to TDC #1) and wa-la...she fired right up...

Re: Project: Mistress
here's a few pictures from the Autofair....My dad's friend was approached by a guy selling 2 primo spots at the back gate of the fair (which I hear is one of the most entered gates of the show...and I believe it)...I purchased one and parked the Mistress there all Saturday....she got lots of attention, and I had a couple offers, but no takers...she's still for sale....she runs great and best of all not leaking oil!!!

Re: Project: Mistress
Looks great! I like the black block with your painted inner fenders. You'll find the right person soon enough...although I'm surprised you haven't sold it yet...
