Re: The Fuse is Lit...

Ever have that "one" thing on a build that you splurge on because even though it is not mandatory you just really want it?

Well I have scrimped and saved to buy this...

Made by Classic Instruments

Not cheap and many use the Autometer gauges with great results but this is something I have always wanted in my truck...now I just hope I can hook it up right. lol

Re: The Fuse is Lit...

Thanks for all the kind words guys! Makes me feel like maybe I'm not crazy after all.

Mike, here are some more pics

Here is a closeup of the quick disconnects that are on the back of the harness. They send you the wire and connectors to make this work with an original harness or with a aftermarket truck wiring harness (American Autowire, etc.)

They also sent a pulse generator for the tranny, new oil temp sender and water temp sender. Excellent customer service.

Re: The Fuse is Lit...

Looks like some super high quality gauges and wiring. I like the connector setup too. Definetly would need to save up for this one. I'm at least a few months from needing one

Re: The Fuse is Lit...

I really can't say enough about the customer service. I bought the unit through egauges.com and they sent the wrong speed sensor generator. I called Classic Instruments about getting the correct one (which was about $100) they said just send the wrong one back and we will send you the correct one...oh and you may have the wrong temp sender also, so send it back too. All they charged was shipping and the difference in price (about $15)
He then begins to tell me where the best place to put the oil and temp sender on a LQ4 motors and what is working best for thier previous customers, all this even though I did not buy it directly through them, I thought it was first class treatment.

Re: The Fuse is Lit...

Gauge cluster came with two push button controls. One to set the clock and one to set the speedo.

So I mounted them in the existing holes that are on the lower inside part of the dash.

One on one side one on the other. Now I can just reach under the dash to adjust either one.

Good idea with the switches. kinda out of the way.

Hey Rex, quick questions. What harness did you buy? How do you like it? How is it working out integrating with your LS harness? thanks

American Autowire Classic Update, I can't say enough good things about it. It is an exact copy of the original harness but has wires also for third brake lights and other things.

All the wires are extra long so you can route and hide them easier.

It also had 6 extra fused wires (4 key hot and 2 all hot) so that I did not have to buy the extra fuse box for the LS wires. It will also plug in directly to any aftermaket gauges.

I like the idea of all the extra fuses and longer wires. Sounds and looks like high quality. It also comes with a price. I looked at their site. It looks like I'm going to have to find someone selling their project to be able to afford one.

You might try looking at EZ wiring, I think their choices, while not as complete, are easier on the wallet.

I'll look into them. I have a real nice original uncut harness that I bought on the board I've planning on using. I'm just thinking of buying a new one to update fuses and 40 year wires. I will know more when I pull it out of the bag it's been in for the last year.

So what you have going next on this puppy? How's the paint coming on the rest of the panels?

Paint is coming slowly, I am more tied up in the wiring and installing the A/C boxes.

I was putting in my diverter box and noticed the flap was gone! Not cracked or fell out on the floor but as in total disappeared.lol

Re: The Fuse is Lit...

Here is what I did with the brake switch. Bought a GM switch for a later model truck and hooked a key hot switch and the TCC wire on one plug while the other plug held the original wires.
