Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
I went for a ride again last night , let it eat a lil more ! bout 3500-4000 it really pulls hard and fast , as soon as I got it backed in the garage and shut down it blew an airline , must have got hot from the header , I got it replaced and will put some insulation on it tomorrow , glad it broke at home

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
maibe replacing that part with a copper line is a better idea it doesnt melt even when its against the header

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
I thought about doin them in stainless but theres 3 lines running through that area so I would have to replace all them and would have to make connections from stainless to plastic because the stainless wont go in the frame rail in 1 piece , the lines are about 4" from the header pipe so I think I can just insulate them from the heat ,

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Up to 116 miles now! maybe get around 7mpg !!
Got the sunvisors cleaned up and ready to mount, noticed that the mirror on the right side was upside down, tried to remove it but felt like it was gonna break so I figured I'd leave it like that ,

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
I noticed the hood insulation was rubbing my aircleaner so I removed the 1" 4 hole spacer and replaced it with a 3/8" open type insulator to get it lower and it hated that ,very poor thottle responce , so I replace the 1" and cut the dropbase air cleaner bottom and lowered it about 3/4" using another base , everythings happy now!

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Thanks, the aircleaner worked out perfect, got 177 miles on it , I dont think I'll be able to get it out anymore this year its turned to rain and freezing temps for the most part ,I was able to get it out on saterday when it was in the 60's out, ran great ! I still need to finish a few things like the drive shaft ,vacuum can and a washer tank , will get them built over the winter so everything will be ready to go for spring ,

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Beautiful job. Real nice to see all the nice fab work and not all bought out of the box stuff. All I see that's left is to smooth out your camera man and the drive shaft.

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Thanks , I'm workin on getting the drive shaft now , no help for the camera woman ! learned some more lessons over the weekend when I had some family over the and since it was nice out went for a few rides around the block, everything was good till the last blast at bout 100 I looked in the mirror and there was a huge cloud of smoke I stopped grabbed the fire extinquisher and went to see what was smokin, I had a very small oil fire on the header I figure oil was coming out the breather in must have got down to the header, there was also water/af around the water pump and all under near the truck, figured the seal must have went bad ,I was only about 1/2 mile from home so I got it there no problem, turned out the water pump came loose ,tightened it up with some locktite and everything good again , I built a catch can to keep any oil off the header ,just need to get it mounted and plumbed , I'll get some pics

Re: 77 yellow gmc swb
Thanks , the fender emblem were about the hardest part to find but were also about the cheapest , they were NOS and got them from ebay for $1.99 each !
I finally got the new drive shaft for it and also got a new converter on the way, the 2500 was just way to tight so I went with a 3200-3500 ,
