Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
do you have disc on the front or drums ? I have had issues with the rubber brake line collapsing inside an not allowing the fluid to go either way just a thought . one issue i am having with mine an will change for next summer !! is the motor that came with my truck 327 has to big of a cam an is radical to were it should have a stall convertor .
the guy I bought the truck from didn't have a clue to what was put into the motor for up grades . my bro inlaw has a 350 punched 40 over all new short blk an a nice set of edelbrock alum heads which should perk it up a little with a lower end cam .. love the truck jus have to feather the throttle at stop lights to keep it running which keeps the wife from wanting to drive it maybe I should keep it that way !! ha ha not |

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Thanks! It's a LOT of yellow. We had another burned out headlight. General consensus is we need a 3.73 rear, which ought a really make it a tire fryer. Still have some loose ends to tidy up. Boppa redid the brakes, and he thinks the bearings were just too tight. It was weird, I was up there Sunday and he had yeller in what was its usual spot and it was weird seeing the truck we'd always talked about instead of a rusty beat down POS.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Now for the real update- Stereo still a mess. Alternator lost the voltage regulator and almost blew up the battery on a fishing trip last thurs. Literally. Acid boiling out the vents. Thankfully he stopped at Uncle Matt's bodyshop (right by the lake) and washed it down. Long story, but minimal damage, except to Boppa, who was just sick. It's all ok, though. I went up on Sunday and put more and better ground straps throughout. 14.5 volts at 3000 rpm, all is good. Biggest issue is a Throbbing vibration at around 60-65. I dunno, but WUBWUBWUB, big vibe! Didn't have time to climb under for that on Sun, so I guess it's the next thing. It's still in the fight, though!
Yeller in it's new home- it used to live outside. Not no more, according to Nanny! Yours truly attaching cab grounds- Fat guy down! 10-23! Fat guy in distress! (apologies to Katt W) The culprit- all fixed and shined back up

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Oh, I had them, all sanded and tight and all that. Just not as many or as nice as I would have liked. These are 4ga. welding cable and copper ends, encased in electric grease, and multiples of same. Much mo betta! The Alternator was 12 years old and needed a bearing anyway, which it got. The regulator crapping out was a bit of a surprise, though. Hi Lite!

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Yeah, I liked that shot too. Took it while following him out in LBT. He was shaking his head at me because I left the park sideways....pulling a trailer... in front of a cop. It was a good day.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
In all fairness it's a small trailer, and the road was dusty from construction.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Small update- Yeller is now in Neighbor Donnie's garage, so I can debug-at-will. When I showed up with it, donnie gave it a pat and told it "welcome home" Vibration is still present, I have a thread going under driveline. Currently on the hunt for a 3.73 rear to maybe up the R's a tad and get better MPG, which was the whole point. Have vibe narrowed down to worn rearend yoke or shocks (which are WEAK) allowing suspension to oscillate. If we swap rear, probably going to lower a tad, and might rework trailing arms, they need blasted and patched up. Might get some more work in this weekend.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Another update- Got a 3.73 rear today- have to clean it (Yech!) and put a new pinion seal in it. Think I found a clue about the driveline, replaced the loose front ujoint, then Saturday I jacked up the truck, leveled the frame and found just about every number involved with the driveline to be wrong. Apparently it's running in a straight line through the joints, which my research says is bad. Soooo, I gots some shimmin' to do. Looks like an exciting near future for ol yeller. Hope to hell this works.....

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Hmmmm.... I've heard the same thing and my understanding of that theory is that if there ain't no angle of the dangle the roller bearings never roll and ur always mashing on the same couple little guys. I wouldn't expect any vibration tho until they're shot. I'm sure you've eyeballed the intermediate bearing..... Drive shaft aint tweaked is it? I think you can re-clock the two too? If so, did you witness mark the two shafts when you tore it down? Just thinking out loud here... If your joints are tight maybe take the whole mamba-jamba in for balance???

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Confabbed with my boss, who builds 2,000 hp 11.5 Outlaw cars ground up, and he says I'm on the plan. A big 4x4 guy at work says the same. Just ordered the shims, tech guy at the roundy-round place says I'm on the right track, oughta be a fun weekend! Gawd I hope this works.

Re: Boppa's old yeller truck
Ummmm, lessee..... New blower motor works when it wants to, stereo still buzzes, drive shaft throb, drivers window hard to roll up, gulps gas more than it should, need to put nice wheels back on, need to put 3.73 rear in, huge passenger side wind whistle. I think that's it.
