Any updates on that old girl? Jealous of the crew cab! Also what are your plans for the front shaft to clear? You mentioned using the chevy front with the np205.

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

Nothing since March.... I bought an 89' V3500 or K30 crew cab to drive until I finished the 72'. What started as just a cheap teuck, I can't leave well alone. Turned it into a resto with the whole 9. Lift, tires, wheels, nv4500 swap, shortening the wheelbase etc.
The old girl is sitting right now.

Holy s*** is that a lot of work, it looks great. I would love to do something like what you're doing, I'd probably be in my 50's (I'm 43 now) by the time I got done with it, IF I got done with it. Great work, this is a truck that GM should have built.

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

Sorry for the previous double post?? Just curious, would it be easier to start with a crew cab, and shorten the rear doors, then shorten the cab to match? I know the factory crew cab trucks have the full doors front and rear, but would it save work instead of building a B Pillar and a fourth door? Maybe this has been discussed before? Thanks, again great work.

You could do that, but you would have a gap between the doors, unlike the clean look of the suburban doors and later style crew cabs. That and you have to locate a crew cab.

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

Yeah, I just google searched the crew cabs, now I know why guys use the suburban body to start with, much better looking imho. A guy a couple miles from me actually has two crew cabs, but I haven't seen them in so long, I forgot what they looked like.

Trevor the truck looks great! Quick question, are the rear window roll-up mechanisms the same as the front door? Thanks,

Rob

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

amazing build! any updates? and question, for the 4th door does a front door body line match or did you have to modify? it appears the upper body line on a stock front door tappers down.

great work!

Hey Rob, sorry I missed your question months ago. The regulator's are the same, but the linkage is way different.

Re: Project: 1972 K30 Crew Cab Duramax

No new progress, been working on a CJ10a jeep. It's a factory diesel jeep.
I think I remember taking a passenger and a driver side rocker panel to make the fourth rocker.
