Thanks Mr. Bomp!!! I enjoyed 2 cruise ins and a car show over the weekend and was amazed at the attention it received. I heard the word perfect more than once and that totally blew me away. I'm just a guy doing what I love in my garage so it really means a lot to hear all the positive comments

Every Friday night during the summer, there is a cruise in at a Dairy Queen not too far from my house. It's all cool cars and everyone is pretty great to be around. I talked with my parents and we all showed up, they were in dad's 69 K20 and had a blast!





Saturday night, there was a cruise in in Vancouver. Normally there is an event called Cruisin the Gut but this year they didn't get their permit so a couple other groups took it over and moved it just outside of the downtown area. I had forgotten all about it so I showed up late but I had a great time and will definitely go again!


I got home from that around 11:00 and a buddy suggested that I show up at the Tigard Balloon Festival Car Show. It's literally across the street from the house so I got up early on Sunday and gave the pickup a quick cleaning and showed up. Lots of cool cars out there but I'm starting to realize why a lot of my friends have a strong dislike for judged shows. What went home with a trophy didn't always make sense. I may not have a trophy winning truck (built it to use it not to show it) but it gets so much respect and attention which is worth way more to me than a silly trophy






I had an awesome weekend with the old pickup, this thing is such an awesome little truck and driver!

I get what you are saying about the judged car shows. I think there is a place for them, but I when I showed mine like that, I worked way to hard at having it just right to meet what THEY thought it should look like, that I started to not have any fun at them. I left the scene for a number of years due to work and family, but now I am back into it somewhat and prefer to go to them and not worry about the judging. I just like hanging out with friends in this great hobby. Some I only get to see on social media like here and other places, so when we end up at the same show, I make it a point to talk face to face.

Thanks Aggie! I'm with you on the car shows, it's great to take the old truck and talk with people and see what others have done and spend time with friends. I like that I have an excuse to go to them now

Last night, my buddy at Jacob Carroll Photography loaded up and got some shots of the truck around Portland. The truck never missed a beat, temp stayed fine even with all of the idling and slower cruising looking for spots. He sure has an awesome eye for pictures, this shot was taken down in the industrial area and I love how it turned out

Just kidding, that stance is perfect! Now that you are driving it more with this current set up, how do you like that Uni-Steer Rack set up?

I looked back thru the thread, but I never saw what you did for the rear shock relocation, what did you end up doing?

The Uni-steer kit is ok. For performance driving, it leaves a bit on the table in the geometry department but works fine cruising around. One thing I don't like about it is the rack is offset to the passenger side for frame clearance and wasn't noticed until this year so I can turn sharper to the right than the left. Gotta fix that. If I were to start over with the steering, I would compare the Uni-steer and No Limit kits better. I think the No Limit rack setup would be better for what I want to do with the pickup.

I haven't done anything with the rear shocks yet and I really don't have the harsh ride that I've heard about. I have the No Limit relocation kit but ran out of time to get them on before exhaust and now the exhaust runs right where the shock would be. I may look at the CPP kit but I don't know yet.

18x9s all around with 5" of backspace or a 0 offset. The rear was actually the gating factor on my pickup because of the stepside.

Oh wow I think I found my wheels - Rev makes Chromed five spokes.
If I went with an 8 inch in front instead of nine (which I want) I'm going to have to do some tire and offset adjustment probably right?
Wait that would just be 1/2" narrower on the front and back side right? (at zero offset) I can live with that.

With my old rally wheels, they were a 15x8 with 4" of backspacing so going to the 9" wheel and 5" backspace, the outside of the tire remained in the same spot and the inside of the tire moved in an inch. I would expect yours to be the same, the outsides of the tire will be at the same point but the insides would not be.

Cool cause I'm thinking 245/45-18's in front would work for a 8 inch wide tire just fine.

Hey scoot...on your old setup with the 292 and T5, what flywheel and starter were you using? I've got an 11" Astro clutch for my 250/T5 combo and it looks like it will only work with a 168 tooth flywheel which I think require a starter with offset bolt holes which my 250 doesn't have. Just trying to get it all sorted out. Thanks!

I used a 168 tooth flywheel and a starter for a 168 tooth flywheel. My 292 was a crate motor so maybe it had the right starter mounts but I'd imagine yours should have both options to bolt to.

Ok cool, thanks. I've got a 292 that the flywheel came off of but I coulda sworn it wasn't drilled for the offset starter and my 250 wasn't either. I could be losing my mind though so I'll go back and check

Had a bit of a mishap loading it on the trailer after the alignment yesterday. My trailer has the supports at the back and I've been dangerously close to them a number of times. Yesterday seemed to be the day that I ran out of luck. Luckily, my buddy offered to get it back straight last night so it didn't stay crunched too long. The stupid supports are coming out tonight!

For years my dad has wrestled his trailer ramps, I built my tilt bed trailer. Have never smashed a finger or had a ramp slid or fall.

I was thinking about a tilt deck trailer, would make loading this thing a walk in the park. I will be looking at longer ramps or an extension since this will occasionally be on a trailer and I don't want it to be a huge production like it was yesterday. Loading and unloading at the house is great since my driveway has a slope to it so I can back the trailer up so the ramps are flat. Lucky for me it doesn't spend a lot of time on the trailer

Ha! I've been pretty good about not doing anything stupid in the old pickup but the heat got to me and I just wasn't thinking. Oh well, that's all part of the game

Tinkered with the truck a bit on Saturday, fixed my power steering leak, exhaust leak and also figured out why the clutch started acting up again. Between the C10 and my Jeep, I've got full weekends of wrenching . I headed over to a buddy's house yesterday to see what they have been up to and decided to throw my GoPro in the pickup. Finally got the old girl on the autocross track yesterday and I gotta say that I'm absolutely hooked! I was real nervous going in since I hadn't ever done an autocross before and I wasn't sure how the truck was going to do. Everyone was real supportive and happy to lend a hand when I needed it so the nerves went away quickly. We got 8 runs in and I was improving during my first 5 laps with the 5th lap being my best. For 6 and 7, my dad was riding with me and I slowed down a bit and then for the 8th lap, I beat myself and drove all wrong but was still pretty fast. For a simple suspension build on a 51 year old truck, I can't complain about anything, it was just way too much fun!

I've been keeping an eye out for a new cab with a big back window for some time now and I looked at a couple cabs with small windows that were better and worse than what I have at the same time. A big window cab popped up at a wrecking yard a couple hours away from the house so dad and I loaded up with the trailer and headed up Saturday morning with the intentions of bringing the whole cab back. Turns out, a guy has been looking at the cab for 3 weeks and beat us out by like 10 minutes, dangit! Overall, that cab was way more gone than what I had and he just wanted the big window panel. Feeling bummed, dad and I walked the yard in search of another big window cab that I saw in their inventory list the night before. We found it and the cab was untouched. Since it was a knee-knocker cab, I was only interested in the back of the cab so we went to work cutting the cab up. Pretty excited to add this to the list of winter projects this year

Felt like the trailer was a little overkill for this but we did head up with the intentions of bringing a whole cab back so I guess I had to use the trailer


For the conversion, I will be cutting the interior panels out of each cab and spot welding the big panel onto my cab. That process looks to be pretty straightforward with minimal paint damage

I started this process recently also. Something I did notice when drilling spot welds on the inside of the panel, the outside panel isn't cut flush with the inside panel. I haven't put a ruler on it yet , but I'd guess it's 1/8 to 3/16 difference in some areas. I'm going to make a pattern of mine before I take it apart to make sure and transfer the opening to my truck so the glass fits right. I read something not long ago about a guy who cut his out and his glass was "loose" as he described it. That makes me wonder if it the outer panel needs that little extra length.
