Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Built a frame for the seats a couple weeks ago. Pushed through the heat and fabricated the mounts today. Want to add some gussets to the feet for more strength. Maybe get to that and cutting seat risers down this weekend.

What steel is it that you used? I need to make a seat riser for my seats out of a Mercedes R350.

Just used a mild steel 1" square tube I picked up at Ace Hardware. Did not see a need to go way overkill. Only needs to support 3 people and the seats. Seat belts are are floor mounted in the truck. If I was installing seats with integrated belts a thicker wall tube would have been ordered and used. Should finish up all mounts tomorrow.

Nice. Thanks
My rear seat brackets are way overkill at 3/8 inch thick. Those are integrated belt seats from the third row of a cadi/suburban. I will likely go with 1/4 inch for the front brackets.

Should have mentioned I used 1/4" steel for the feet. The gussets and box plates on the mounts are 3/16". Fully finished finished the seat mounting today, last riser and feet of frame boxed in. It is ready to bolt into truck as the original bench went in. Will most likely do a beauty cover for the sides now.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Have been working on the seats when I can. The three most difficult risers are modified. Inner on the 60 side need chopped still. I took over 4" out of the risers to get the drop I wanted. Had to order hardware online to complete the install. No one here in California seems to have more than a couple of bolts in stock. Pretty sure I know who to thank for this ridiculousness.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Wow! over 100,000 views now. Thanks to all for the interest in my project. It has been really hot here, 114 degrees +. Would love to see some more comments. To hot for me to get any work done. My work place is at least 10 degrees lower and is somewhat tolerable. Supposed to be cooling down by end of week and may get on finishing the seats.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Working on wiring when I can. Still to much work time at the shop. I installed the headliner and trim. Think it looks nice. Was going back and forth on whether or not to use it. No holes were drilled in cab to install so I can remove later if I choose.
Threw the dash pad on just to see how it fits. It is an OEM type replacement I purchased in 03 from Dashes Direct. I know a parchment dash pad was never offered by GM, but that is what I wanted.

Took my door panels to the shop, cleaned, prepped and painted them. Used the SEM "super white" that was recommended. They are more white than the parchment. Do not know of any other choices at this time.

Thank you for the kind remarks. I have been working on the truck but nothing really to see. I did find a parchment paint for the door panels that has an acceptable match to the other interior pieces I used. Panels and arm rests are in the new color. Mentioned in a couple of other threads, OER PP807 Parchment. I purchased from Summit Racing. Don't cheap out or forget the adhesion promoter when painting the plastic pieces.

I’ll have to check out the prices for the OER Dye at Summit. I definitely don’t cheap out on the Prep, as I do the Plastic Prep & Adhesive Promoter for the Plastics. And then the Vinyl Prep when doing vinyl. Also, when I do color changes I’ll use the Low Luster Clear after dye. That helps protect the color especially on color changes.

Was not directed at you or anyone else in particular. With the SEM promoter almost $40 a can now. I thought about skipping it maybe a for a second.
I would wager that you have much more experience than I when recoloring plastics.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Have not updated in a while. Have been working on wiring lately as lucky for me I am not needed at the body shop. A couple of pics of installed components and wiring. Not real exciting but a lot of work. Had to move the ECU over to right side as cluster would not go in. Even with the 90 degree adapter on speedo cable clearance was 1/4" to short. Rebuilt the mounting bracket and it allowed a few components room on the left. Paddle shifter wired, as well as tach/speedo module, ecu and cruise control. There is room for more things.
Wiring still a bit messy, but there is more to do before final cleanup.

Curious how you installed the headliner trim without drilling holes?
Truck is looking great

Thanks for the comment. I installed the trim with 3M VHB tape. Same type as the headliner. 1" for the headliner and 1/4" for the trim.

Removed mounting tabs from backside of trim. Installed short screws in the mounting holes, securing with flat clips on backside.

12" long pieces of 1/4" pvc tube were secured to the body just outside the perimeter of headliner using the double stick tape.

Trim is test fit with outer tape not exposed. Adhesive is exposed and trim pressed into place.

I had someone say to me that they would not trust the tape. Yet the vehicle they are driving has all the exterior trim stuck on with tape. Baking in the sun, driving at speed? We use these tapes at the body shop all the time.

Great work on the headliner trim. Where did you source the pvc?
Glad to see you’re getting some help from kitty!

I use the clear acrylic tape a lot of times instead of the foam based. Have things held in place for years with the stuff. Clean surface and press down well.

Wanted to repost this, an awesome idea for attaching molding here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcGBoTphXfc credit- found this in a thread by IT_Cowboy. Will use this method on some of my trim to make alignment easier.

Re: Restomod 72 K10 "Good Memories"

Taking a little break from working under the dash. Picked up the welded air cleaner tube today and fit it. Still need to fabricate the air box, but you get the idea. Made bracket for the PSC reservoir and routed a few hoses. Started the under hood truck wiring. Routing and bundling the harness. Ran an extra 10 gauge wire over to the battery for the auxiliary switched fuse panel I installed under the dash. The under hood ECM harness is about 80% finished.
