I write. I have received some very nice rejection letters. Telling me to keep at it. I understand that. My work runs to the dark side of life. It's not for everyone. When I see what the New Yorker or the Sun publishes (they rejected me) it's about a million miles away from my gritty hardscrabble stories. My wife took some of my short stories to work and it made the girls cry. The local newspaper canned me because I trashed an event and the people running it were advertisers. That didn't go over well. Whatever. I know where the door is.
Just like my stand up. 99 people laugh at my jokes and one guy wants to kill me. Everyone's a critic.

Rear tire kept going flat on the Harley . Took it off no nails or holes but it was leaking from the rim lip and only on one side. Was going to just pop the bead and clean up the aluminum but noticed the tire was made 3rd week of 2015 . So a new tire was in order . Front was 2019

I never watched Vegas. I got married there once. It left a bad taste in my mouth.

Coco could be a show dog. But I'm way too lazy for that. She has a pedigree and all that. It's around here someplace. I don't know.

She's a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. She fears nothing and you would be surprised how fast she can run and how high she can jump with those stubby legs. She can jump on to the kitchen counter. I was sitting at the counter on my laptop and this dog came out of nowhere and slid across the counter and darn near knocked my laptop on the floor.

They race them. My money's on the tan and white one.

No it's not. Mine was given a repaint at some point and they used Ochre . They must have picked a color since the spid doesn't list the code . My truck is three tone now since the inside of the bed door jams firewall and interior are still Placer gold

been a miserable day, got fired this morning...but at least my kid brought some happiness home.
went for his road test for his license today


best test the driving examiner says he's seen in months
aced it without one single demerit or infraction....(how many of us can say that...lol)
when's the last time ya seen a road tester wrote great job on a licensee?
took the miserable bite out of my day...i knew letting him cruise the truck in the backyard at 3 yrs old would pay off

Fired?? I'm sorry. But look at it this way. It's an opportunity to find something that suits you better. Something that you might like better. I enjoy my new position of making more money on the computer than I ever did in that pit of despair that I rotted in for 36 years.

Congats on your boy killing that test.

well i would like to find something better, but i'm old and confused and just a one trick pony. this is my 41st yr at the only job i have ever had in my life.
went to another company today, just waiting till 4 o'clock to hear back from them, just sucks starting at the bottom again at a new company, and if i do land the job, i doubt i will be making what i was....
bright side- only single digits to retirement now

and thanks for the congrats, pretty proud of the boy!

Nice. I had a '60 C40 flatbed for a while, I never did anything with. It had been painted black but was red originally. now I can see how it would have looked had I restored it.

That's great your son passed in flying colors. I was taught to drive at a very young age on the farm. When I took my test the examiner said, "It seems you've been driving for a while". Yup

Your son and I have something in common. That's right. We've both taken the driving test and passed within the last year. It's a story, but exactly 50 years after I got my license I had to start all over again. I passed!!

no, not a "we have to let you go"
in fact we are so busy my boss needed about 15 more guys.
not bragging, but i was his top roofer.
it was really stupid, but it is what it is and can't be changed now. he hired a young guy a few months ago and i was teaching him the ropes. we also have a a-hole employee who's been there a couple yrs and he took a real dislike to the new kid for whatever reason i don't know. was always up his back, cutting him down, yelling and cussing at him in front of the crew. i told him many times to lay off, he's just a kid learning.
there's always been a lot of rough banter on our crews but this a-hole got carried away and slapped the kid, i think i kinda momentarily lost my mind and i put him down....maybe a little too hard.
boss wanted me to apologize, but i knew i had crossed the line and was most likely getting canned, so told him to stick the apology up a-holes butt.
can you belive it? less than 10 yrs from retirement and doing this kinda stuff.
mister a-hole still has his job, he "apologized". the kid came over to my house yesterday, of course his head is in a quandry, he really doesn't want to be working with a-hole. i told him to stick it out, it's still a good company to work for, and if he can't hack it, come work with me.
in our industry it is hard to keep guys, but this kid was willing to do the grunt work and be part of the team- a rarity now-a-days and then you got guys like a-hole pulling cr@p like this....
won't kid, the job loss hurts, seniority is gone, 6% holiday pay gone, 32 bucks an hour gone, company truck gone, 16 yrs with him down the tubes....
and all this happened before 6 am. by 2 pm i had another job. went to a company i had worked with back in the '90's and he gave me a job by the afternoon.
'bout the only good thing about it is the new company i will be working at is only a couple blocks down the road from my old company, so everyday when my ex-boss goes to work, he will now see the truck of his best guy sitting at the competition.
he will have to watch his best man now making his competitor rich, and i DO make money whoever i work for.
go do company orientation today, start roofing tomorrow.

and ya Special, you would not believe how excited the kid is to finally be mobile, it's so contagious. i can't wait for us to hurry up and find him a ride so we don't have to time share our trucks with him
