Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Looks cool Tomb23 but what is it? Maybe I'm out of the loop. I have a 3D printer to help out in prototyping if need be. All I need is the STL file.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Oh ya! Forgot. Sprayed on the first coat of paint on the 51. Sprayed Nason epoxy primer on the bottom of cab and up inside the top rear panel in preparation of installing the new rear lower cab panel. Gonna get the inside of the cab done tomorrow. Sandblasted the last two days just on the cab. If I see another grain of sand ......................

Fleetside bed inner fender body work. Wish I hadn't tossed so many bricks, rock, etc in there for 25 years. Got it close with hammer and dolly, then some skim. Final finish will be bed liner so prefection is not necessary.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Installed a dropped axle from Sid today. Had some trouble with the u-bolts not being narrow enough and had to trim the wedge shims down to 1.75". Bought some new rear brake lines and put some 31x10.50's all the way around it (it's the only size that I had four of) to get an idea of stance.

Put on a new sexy Quickfuel blackdiamond 780 VS carb for the 57 as it goes in for dyno tuning tomorrow and the old Holley 670 wasn't gonna cut it.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Pulled the truck into my garage last weekend- last night I finnally got to work..
Pulled the spark plugs, squirted some marvel mystery oil into each cylinder.

Got out my breaker bar to attempt to turn it over manually- then realized there is no crank bolt on this thing... how the heck do you turn it over?

I hooked my battery back up, thinking i would try and kick it over with the starter, since it spun for me last week (just didn't engage) I thought maybe i could whack it with a hammer and it would start engaging.

Pushed on the stomp starter and POP! No more headlights and no more starter spin.
:-(

I used engine cleaner and power washed the engine bay before i moved the truck... guessing water got into the starter or something. Will have to pull the starter and see if it will work on its own, then re-install.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

Sometimes you can pull the flywheel inspection plate and set a socket and bar on the converter or clutch bolt to see if it will turn or use a pry bar on the flywheel teeth.

Re: What Did You Do With Your Truck Today ?

This is a fun thread to read, but my first post in it as in the last few months all I can say is drove it to work day after day or every now and then make a beer run or jerky run into town--LOL!

We had to haul a garden tractor I had fixed up down to my Father-In-Law today, 150 mile round trip. My wife digs the old GMC, but didn't like my cup holder so last night I built a new one that I was able to attach to an extra ash tray slider. I loaded the tractor with my gantry crane in the shop, but forgot to take the camera on the drive. Came back with a tool box, several new air filters a couple new oil filters, new coveralls and a weedeater scored at a rummage sale.

Yeah I sure will! She likes driving it too, even though it is stock, and she does it well! The quality of the parts you make are second to none. Really like the patriotic knob! Thanks!

Spare mount is on my list too someday. Really dig the Pontiac in there especially since the GMC V-8 of the era was Pontiac. Looks great!

It was a decent little tractor, but the garden tractors I use are Massey-Ferguson's, a 1965 to push snow, dirt and gravel and a 1975 for mowing.

Thanks---DAC

Very cool guys!
I haven't had much time to get on the forum, but I bought this souix valve grinding setup for $100. I started tearing it down right away. By the time I'm done, it'll look like a brand new machine!
