Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Not today, but last week (before heading out of town for Hot August Nights, then being sick for the passed few days).
Started some sanding.... Got a little detail painting done on the grill shroud.... And finally got that big, ugly, utility bumper off...... Lots more to come..... ............. |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Vernski and Mark,
Thanks for getting back to me LOL. By the way vernski love the stance on your GMC, did you use drop spindles too or just the springs? Thanks for the info Mark, I look forward to seeing the write up about the caddy tail lights... Well I worked and sweated all day disconnecting everything from my '61's 235 inline six, gonna remove it..... On a seperate note I bought a c10 2wd SB rolling chassis for the axle/cross members and I am considering puttin my '61 cab and bed on it. Any thoughts? Captainfab gave me some great insights, I'd just like more opinions.. Thanks guys for helping a guy out. Roberto |

And here are photos of the removable portion of the light assemblies: The lights slide into the bezel piece from the front, and the aluminum bar holds them in place. I don’t have any unassembled photos of the back portion that bolts to the truck, but it has a cavity for the aluminum plate, and a hole drilled through the end that goes under the truck bed. The wiring feeds into the hole, runs through the mounting bracket and is connected to the harness under the bed where it cannot be seen. And here are a couple of photos showing the brackets and lights before the fenders went on. The back half on each side bolts to the stake pocket in the original holes. We added two additional mounting holes in the stake pocket and bracket. The finished assemblies are reasonably heavy and I wanted to make sure they wouldn't sag over time. The bezel with the tail lights attaches to the mounting bracket with an upper and lower screw between the lenses. These screw into threaded nutcerts permanently installed in the mounting bracket. And here are a couple of shots after the fenders went on: They look pretty cool at night. I’m sure something far less complex could be whipped up. I just happened to have a full service machine shop and expert machinist available back when these were created. If I could have found a way to mount six of them, I would have added electronic sequencers like on the early Mercury Cougars. I just couldn’t come up with a way to mount six tail lights that didn’t look stupid. Last edited by markeb01; 08-22-2011 at 12:21 AM. |

fuel Pump went bad.....it was new, went and got another, will return the other to Rock Auto.......Took it around to a few friends homes and showed the gmc off.......had a lot of fun, and the sun went behind the clouds so it was only 95 degrees instead of 105....makes a lot of difference. |

Keith,
What kind of fuel pump did you go with? I bought an electrical one and I am debating to going mechanical instead on my sbc 283...... Roberto aka el_bole |

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Got the plugs out of the engine that has been sitting in the field for SEVERAL years, needless to say that was a ***** also, got rid off all the bird, rat, and dirt dauber nests, then I cleaned up the carb, tomorrow is draining and cleaning the tank and changing the oil, a few steps closer to seeing if the ole gal will fire up and live again.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Well, it finally happened... I got tired of leaning forward to reach the toggle switch under the dash that locks up the torque convertor for OD. So, I installed a floor-mounted headlight dimmer switch and wired the OD to it. Now, I can just kick the button, the old girl locks up in OD, and down the road we go!! Funny how a simple task can feel so mundane after a couple of months. Next task is wiring the heater to a knob on the dash instead of a lever switch on the floor. It is gonna be a real pain to reach when I eventually do need it.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Took the gas tank out and cleaned it, changed the broken sending unit. Fuel gauge works. Placed side mirrors, replaced dome light. Drove it to my brothers shop in Kerman.

Re: What did you do to your truck today?
Also started putting some aux gAuges(want a stock dash with stock temp ,oil gauges really bad) but of course I dropped the fitting for the oil pressure gauge. Anyone got a spare one? It's the ferrel fitting that sandwiches the oil line.
