Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Took the afternoon off of work because it was such a beautiful spring-like afternoon! Installed my new HEI in the 70 C10, installed new plug wires (think they gave me the short set instead of the long under-the-manifold style), gapped the plugs, and fired it up. Took about 15 minutes to get the timing just right. Ran good, but had a nasty tick in the passenger side rockers. So I pulled the valve cover and adjusted the noisy lifter. Unfortunately I noticed that the rear-most valve was hardly moving. Guessing that lobe is wiped out... It runs OK for now, but it's coming out in favor of the 383 in my other project truck in the very near future...

I also replaced the 15' long van style tranny dipstick with a standard one. That cleaned up the engine bay a LOT!

This is my first 2wd in this bodystyle and I had NO IDEA how much more room you have to work at the back of the engine in the 2wd vs 4wd trucks!

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

Cut the dash to install my Christmas present.. I got a Pioneer CD player, well I got it cut and mocked it up. Got to hear one speaker play, got a tow call. I had to leave, so when I got back, I put it back in the garage. Will finish later, when I get some speaker wire.

Nothing but looking for a piece of black carpet to make the side door covers. I have de idea of engrave the letters Chevrolet or the bow tie. But the carpet stores don't sell a yard. But I found a place the name is UFO (upholstery furniture outlet an they have two choices car and marine types.
We'll see.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

That's weird, Tomahawk30, I had 5 2wd v8 trucks and 2 4x4's with v8's and all the engines sat the same distance from firewall whether small or big block, maybe yours was a 6cyl originally as they sit further back if just being switched to a v8 and not moving mount back. Cool trucks though, oh ya..

I'm pretty sure all of the trucks I've had decoded as v8 trucks. I'd guess that this one has probably 1 1/2 to 2 inches more clearance than the others. I might have to take a closer look tomorrow for comparison.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

The v8 4x4 trucks have the motor sit closer to the firewall so the oil pan will clear the front axle. That is also the reason the radiator hoses and the shrould are different.

I thought I remembered reading that somewhere. It is definitely easier to work around the 2wd engine bay.

As for what I did to my truck... Put some Thrush glasspacks on the C10 yesterday afternoon. Got stuck working all weekend so I gave myself the afternoon off! I'll probably go to some Flowmasters or Magnaflows when I move the 383 over from the other truck, but this will get it on the road for now.

Re: What did you do to your truck today!

I drove Belle to the Pull a Part. Last week I saw some black seat belts but didn't have a breaker bar to bust them loose..Today I was lookin fwd to getting them today but someone beat me to it..actually the pulled almost anything they could glove box door, orig am/fm radio, and wiring harness. But I did manage to pull a tool box out of what was left of the bed, needs alittle work and a white paint job so it matches my truck.
Talked with a couple guys out side and got a number for possible lead for a period correct tailgate for cheap.
I also started sanding a spare tire holder that I got out of a 67 last summer.

Fired it up, and let it run a little. VP C16 racing fuel smells great. Going to take it to the First Friday car show in Canton, GA this friday. Paul
