Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

Can't even get 5 minutes done on my truck. Upholsterer has had my seats for a month on what he promised was a one-week job.

New to the board..... been a long-time reader. Been building rigs for years and decided to follow in the s10 postings and throw one together....this is old crusty, pulled from a farmer's field last fall. Mounted on a 94 s10 frame, 350 with 700r4 .... drop spindles and a flip kit in the rear...

Welcome to the board! There appear to be quite a few members from Washington state here. I'm assuming, based on your name, you're either an escapee from Area 51 or your truck is a '51. As the title states, this thread allows us to share what we're doing as we work on our trucks.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

thank you,, glad to be here... and yes, there is some 51 parts on it.... not from area 51...however, my wife of 30 years is seeming to be more out-of-this world lately...the 51 actually is my racing number,, i have had it on street stocks, late models, legends, go karts and snowmobiles..

i have several projects.. old crusty is actually a 53 cab.. and i have a 55 big window also, it sits on a camaro clip and a 10bolt nova rear end, it has a nasty 350 and is nothing but trouble every time it goes out.... and i have been working on a 41 ratrod truck for a couple years as time allows.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I installed a 160 thermostat in my truck to see if it would run a little cooler so the electric fan won't come on at normal cruising speeds. After a 10 mile test loop it seems to be working. Now the fan comes on while sitting at a light or at low speed where air flow across the core is too low. I find it odd that the 180 thermostat I took out ran rock steady at about 195 and the new NAPA "premium" 160 runs about 185 (confirmed with a thermometer). why do you suppose the operating temp exceeds the rating on both thermostats?

I took a project for work in Wisconsin for 2 or 3 months. I brought some parts to polish and get machined with me. Have to make some truck money for a while.

Re: What did you do with your truck today, Part 3

I know it is a little frustrating watching someone else put their truck together, but after almost 4 years of working on it, mostly by myself, I want to share!!!
Got the grill in!
Got some minor adjusting still to do on the front end, but it looks like a truck again!!!

Thank Mark!

I've got a 4mb clip of the truck running, thanks to my son-in-law, if you PM me your email I'll send it to you. I don't see a way to post it on the board.

I got my gas tank in, but then it's not quite right. I think I figured it out on my evening walk, I'll finish it up tomorrow I hope.

My compliments for getting it done working in a crowded garage - looks typical of the home builder who has to fight for space with everything from the spare freezer to family bicycles, to next month's garage sale junk. I'm so jealous of these guys with the 2000 sq ft shops; I have to push mine outside in the driveway every time I want to work on it.
