Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

All I did yesterday was soak some hardware in Evaporust. I should have done this last year but somehow it got overlooked.

I'm not fan of those rims but they look so right on your truck.

Yesterday my bed project is finally finished! Myself and a few other old guys are a little sore today. Quarter sawn red oak.

Its funny you mention that because I was really torn about if I'd like them but now that they're on there I'm pretty happy with them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

I used RTV silicon to glue the round gasket to the heater box, after test fitting it to my truck cab. (I am OCD on some things).

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Put my new plug wires in to chase down a "phantom"fluttering. Next will be to replace my electronic conversion module. I think that is what's causing the problem.
Also, my son installed my new stereo setup yesterday. I've had everything but the amp for some time, but finally bought it. It sounds great.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

In the last 10 days I dropped a 454/turbo 400 in place and bolted it up. New cab mount bushing along with core supports. Hung the doors, front fenders, hood back in place and loaded all the little bits up in the back of bed getting ready to move in the next month.
Kinda forgot how good the old girl looks pre-build.
Wish the whole truck looked like the bed.

I took pics of the completed heater box but those didn't download to the computer for some reason.

I hope to put the theater box on the truck tomorrow...weather is a bit stormy today.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II

Painted my new-to-me 402.

As received

prepped (degreased, sanded, degreased some more) and primed (2 coats)

3 coats of orange

After 2 coats of clear and put back together. Will look even better with the orange valve covers back on. Undecided on painting the intake orange or not. Can decide later.

Cleaned up the extra set of rallys, got 'em all for $200CAD/$150USD. To mount the drag radials on for track visits.

Looks great. Did you do that while they were still on the truck. If so, just free hand or did you do any masking.

LOTS of masking. Used my rear bumper's box to make a 2" "window" in 4ft section. Only masked the upper and lower with the expensive/good tape then used cheap tape/duct to join the window to the good tape. Painted with my touch up gun with Rustoleum 4 parts flat to 1 part gloss 1 part acetone. Key is to use a flat surface (like a paint stick in my case)and wrap paper tight around it. Wet with acetone and use even pressure to expose to two shiny high ridges. Tedious but worth the effort.

I have used semi-gloss black pin striping tape on these and the lower moldings. Much more forgiving than paint.

Ochre! I love you dude! Excellent color choice.

Here is what I did since I ripped that same gasket off on the first attempt to put the heater box back onto the firewall.
