Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
The last thing that I've done recently is start up my truck and drive it around the yard for a few minutes just to keep the seals and gaskets lubed up.
I've been too busy to do anything with my truck this year. Plus I've had some life altering circumstances happen this year that has drawn my attention away from my projects. Once my late granddaughters funeral is behind me I can move on with my projects.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
After thought post.
I have already begun collecting parts for my project including picking up a 2001 Suburban for the engine swap, a 72 blazer tank for the tank conversion, and a few odds and ends to make the swap easier.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
When they bolted on a rebuilt GM 12 Bolt rear-end at Tucson Differential, my '68 C/10 Stepside's Odo read 405,083. I was told to break it in by making runs of 15 - 20 miles, and letting the pumpkin cool down, and to change the 80-140 weight oil after 500 miles.
The other day, the Odo read 405,584 when I got home. So it's time to drop the cover, drain the gear oil, look for metal shavings, read the wear pattern, bolt the cover back on, and refill with fresh gear oil. Then I can cruise the freeways without let or hindrance.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Made more progress this weekend on the bucket seat swap. After finishing the console, my seat frames were done at the blasters so picked them up and was able to get some primer on them before the rain came back. Now need another dry half a day to get them painted and the bench out of my truck to start figuring out how to mount them.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Put the inner skirt on . It’s real nice not having to fight the panels . And I seem to have miss placed one of the big washered bolts the one with the f shims . I found one and the four f shims .

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
I was thinking about this after I commented, earlier. With non-metallic paint, I've managed to lay down a lacquer paint job that required only a little buffing. Gotta be careful though, that much thinner can make a run, real quick.

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Was talking full car show paint . We used to add clear to the last few coats and retarder . Then a few days later wet sand and more straight clear . They came out smooth as glass but the paint was brittle and didn’t last like the newer paints do .

Re: What did you do to your truck today. The 3rd chapter
Yep. But lacquer alone is pretty high maintenance, too. I shot the roof of my truck with base/clear acrylic enamel, because lacquer is tough to find around here, though I prefer it. I painted the roof of my '68 Skylark with that cheap lacquer sold at O'Rielly's. White, with a clear coat. It actually held up pretty well, for the price. Looked good 10 years in, anyway. I sold it after I got my truck, because I only wanted one money pit.

I know the purists won't care for it much and I get it. 3 of my other 4 classics I kept pretty close to original. But the good news is there is room for everything and everyone. As I mentioned, the previous owner put the battery under the bed. PITA. Now it is in the toolbox. I went with under rail for a cleaner look and bright and shiny to match the bed / board retainers. Plus, I removed the "LUND" logo and replaced it with a bit of Texas flare. LOL! |
