Re: AD Truck Project

Now it is time for lunch and a parts run. The bolt I got to mount the upper cup is too short.

Re: AD Truck Project

For the first time since this truck entered the family back in Feb 2010 it now sets on it's own front suspension. Not quite the goal of rolling it outside but close enough. There is a ton of little things to do and rework, but I am pretty thrilled.

Re: AD Truck Project

I don't have it yet, because it may not be correct. I have not wheeled it out so I can see if it is centered. I have posted a few links in the last 3-4 weeks here on this thread that should help you determine your center line.

Re: AD Truck Project

This is from one of the threads I linked...

"Go to www.speedwaymotors.com and it gives great instructions. Doing a 53 also. 18.5" from center of front shackle pivot is centerline for MII. I can fax em to u also buddy."

I hope it helps. The best thing to do it tack it in and then look to see if you are happy with it before final welding.

Not a great video, but I had to balance my phone on the bumper of my crew cab.

I know nothing about bags, but that looked good when you were airing it out in the video.

Re: AD Truck Project

Congrats on getting your truck out of the garage Billy. It looks like you hit the wheel base right on. Looking forward to seeing more updates.

Re: AD Truck Project

Thanks guys. It was nice to have an update that involved parts going back on lol. I was really worried about the wheelbase, but it worked out.

I rolled it out today and took out the seat frame, gas tank, and stripped the head liner out of it. There was not as much pooh as I expected which was nice. Also, I was dreading that I might find more cat bones in there, but there was not any. Just a mouse or rat skull lol. The tire I put on the passenger side rear didn't hold air, which of course it is up against a wall when in the garage. So, I swapped that tire today for one that was good. I also removed the broken rear window and the dry rotted window seal.

It will probably be the weekend before I get to mess with it anymore. But, when I do I think I will clean in the cab more, try to get the stock gauges out, and see about mocking up the steering column.

Re: AD Truck Project

I got a little work done. Last week I got the truck turned around, with some help from my neighbor and a random guy riding by on a bicycle. Sunday I wanted to start taking the fenders off the rear. I started by breaking every bolt I touched. Then I found out some of the bolts were between the rotted wood floor and the steel floor someone welded over the top of it. After some air chisel and sawzall love, I got it out. I put the rolled up metal on the curb and my friendly neighbor hood metal scrappers had already took it this morning.

Btw if anyone wants that bumper they can have it. It says Curtis Raborn Chevy, Pauls Valley, Oklahoma on it.

Re: AD Truck Project

truck is looking good for sure. Can't wait to see it done. what are the plans for the rear? Triangulated 4 link or parallel? what rear end you using? Pardon if it was already mentioned.

love the old gauges. holler at me if you aren't using them. I quite a few sets.

Re: AD Truck Project

We got most of the old shop moved out to the shop mom had built. I have some major garage envy.

I tried to gather up all the parts for my dad 52 sedan so we could know what we have and what we may need down the road.

Re: AD Truck Project

Sweet ! TBI is great for reliable cruizin'. Should be pretty quick in that old lightweight truck too, much lighter than my 93 anyway. I just went over 200k on my '93 GMC. 75mph 50 miles a day.....

Re: AD Truck Project

I worked yesterday on removing the bed. It is amazing how so few bolts can take up so much time. I thought I had them all removed but I could not get the bed to come off. So, either I have missed some more bolts or maybe the bed sills are rusted to the frame. Not real sure.

Re: AD Truck Project

Ive got a transmount, motor mounts, and a step notch kit enroute. I am going to make another attempt at getting the bed off on Sunday.

I keep day dreaming about some c-57 coys, 17x7's and 17 or 18x8's. I probably should stick with the original plan of running the cutlass wheels for now.
