Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Fabricating the valance that sits in front of the core support and covers the top of the radiator. This is pretty straight forward but it does have a few tricky parts to it. We want to do quite a bit of bead rolling on this and it is more then 5 foot wide so we need to build it in halves then weld it together after Greg rolls it and brakes it.
So we needed to mock it up in cardboard, not as easy as it seems. |

Then transfer it to some 18 gauge and lay out the bead rolling patterns
We will start on the bead work, brake work and welding in the morning. |

Looking good Robert. Before u get to far check your parking light clearance with your filler panel with the hood shut. They are very close there. I actually had to modify my light housing a little. Your work looks great.👍

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Seems everything is fitting up nicely. bending this to the correct shape was a challenge but with some perseverance, determination and a lot of stubbornness we got to welding and final fitting.

Greg is getting better and better running the bead roller, and now is the sole operator of it. . We are finding more and more places in our design to incorporate it.

Your work is looking good. One question, is the hood gonna clear that radiator support? It looks really tall compared to a stock one.

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Me too.
Back in the old days I was pretty cavalier about just putting stuff together, only to find out it had to be done again because I failed to be out in front in terms of design and planning. Today, I am honestly too lazy to do things twice. |

We are officially in the market for a break. Our finger press break is fine but we want a tad more versatility so we are shopping diligently.

That is a slick idea on that cover. Man it is going to look so good when everything is bodyworked and painted. Will look like gm should have designed it. 👍👍

Re: Two is easier then one 1965 GMC S/W/BB build
Details on the "tilting core support lid" Our own little design that solves several issues in regards to hiding stuff.
the hinge allows the part to lift as it opens thus preventing any unwanted paint removal. we built an exact "buck" of the custom aluminum radiator to allow us to build the core support and orient specific parts. I have in the past bumped into the new radiators on other builds and left witness marks to my clumsiness. The plywood mock up doesn't mind me welding or grinding right next to it. |
