Pic #1 showing the pieces together. If you notice the black line around the bezel this was transferred from the opening in the dash so I know exactly where I need to put it when ready...
Pic #2 with the ring on and ready to set in place.. Till next time.. Mark...

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Looks really good Mark. So the gauge sandwiches on the sleeve in the bezel?
Did you MIG the bezels into the dash? Welds look really good. Thanks for sharing! |

Looks like like bezels are weld from the backside?
Dash is looking great!!

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
First question...Yes the sleeve is basically a stop for the gauge.. you can set the depth as you desire.
Question #2 I used a TIG welder for this. It is a scratch start welder, it's not the best unit I have ever used but it does the trick..

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
The large bezels had to be welded on the outside..
The plan was to weld them all on the back to keep from doing a ton of clean up but the gaps around the bezel didn't look to nice..as for the small one in the center it was welded from the back.. Thank's again!!!

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
A.D. It's funny you ask that question...I am having a slight dilemma on this topic!!
After having some of my car Buddies come over we kicked around the Idea of silver monster flake or platinum silver metallic. Then another friend suggested the Idea of bare metal with clear over it to show off the metal work! Any and All comments on this would be Grateful!! So please Guys feel free to chime in on your Thoughts!! Thank's again Mark...

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Me too...metal grinding is a nice fragrance.
Color's you mention would be good and I like the bare metal concept. Why cover up the bare metal when it looks so good. I don't know the best way to do that...and have been considering doing same on our 35 Chevy that has nice metal. Apologies for the pic diversion from your awesome build! |

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Don't even sweat it Brother!! That thing is badass...
That being said, I have a few spray out's I have done to try and get a good perspective on what it might look like.. Pic #1 the panel on the far right was done with a DA sander with flat clear. The middle was done with a sanding disk and flat, and the blue panel was used for contrast. Pic #2 same panels diff angle..

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
In these pics I used the larger panel and a disk to give it some texture...then I mixed the clear to be eggshell...
Guys give me your feedback on what you think.. P.S. I will be starting a new build in the Tinkering section.. Mark..

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
I like bare metal when done right. Sometimes it can be over done. It's all in perspective. I really like metal flake but it too can be over done. I think metal flake because it will be a nice contrast to the outside as well. Either way it's going to be bada$$.

Re: "Project Orangepeel" 52 A.D
Rusty76 I agree on that...I have seen some cars that have had the entire body done in bare metal with the swirl pattern all over it with high gloss clear (to much for me) The metal flake was my first thought (did a 49 Ford for a friend of mine with red) But after talking it over with some guys they felt it would take away from all the metal work and make it look like fiber glass piece I bought and stuck in there.
Here are a few shots of the interior I did for a friend of mine..
