Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Good to hear from you Chris !
Hope your healing well from your surgery, and can get back to your project soon. I've been plugging away at it, but it just doesn't go as fast as I would like it to. I want to have this on the road before snow flies again !!!! Just put in my new Red Head 3.5 turn lock-lock steering box yesterday and have a new power steering pump on it's way. The motor was a bit of a set-back, but it's over with now and I'm moving forward. 4 Body shops !!!! Holly Crap.... Hopefully this one will get the job done !!!! Gary

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks Scott. The body shop is getting back to work on the bed today, so the chassis and cab will be going back to him soon to put it back together. So I've got a week or two to get it ready for him.

Man, he's gonna assemble as well. That's awesome! Wish I had that on mine. I didn't take mine apart, but have to figure out how to get it back together.
Seriously though, it's looking good. Chris

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks Chris !
He's going to get the body set back on the chassis and get everything all lined up and bolted down. This way he knows the body lines & trim are all set. I'll still have everything else to finish up. So when it comes back home it will realy look like a truck again !!!!

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
More pics & progress. The serpentine set-up is finally done, got the bracket without the smog pump and the small bracket for the back of the power steering pump. But this thing wasn't going on without a fight. 1st the 1/2' metal rod/brace for the belt tensioner didn't fit because of the vortec heads and intake, so I made a new one. Then the bracket for the back of the power steering pump and alt wouldn't work with the headers, or the newer style alt. So it had to be cut and modified. Then I got adapter brackets for the sanden A/C compressor, but the compressor wouldn't fit, it hit the valve cover. ( I believe this to be due to the taller valve covers to clear the roller rockers ) So I made up some additional brackets to raise the back of the compressor about 1-1/2 in. This allowed it to fit and be able to remove the valve cover. Doing this mod meant I needed a longer belt, so I measured it and had some luck, got it right on the first shot. Oh and all the hardware for the serp set up is metric !!!!!, So I had to buy all that..... But now it's done. Oh and I got the quick steer Redhead steering box on.
And the body shop is working on my bed, so I should have some pics of that coming soon.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Hey Thanks guys !
I can't wait until the body is set on the frame and it looks like a truck once again... At least at this point I'm ready when the body shop is ready, there's still plenty for me to do, all the plumbing, exhaust, wiring, but if he wants it over there he's got it !!! I have a new Moog drag link that I'll be working on next, along with the steering arm, and the steering column that way they can steer it when the body is on.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Progress !!! The bed is being worked on .... It's all painted inside & under but it was covered and taped by the time I got there so it wouldn't get over-spray on it while he worked on the out side. Steve said the green will all be done this week, but then it will sit for a week or two while he paints a model A ford.
But that will allow me to get more plumbing done ( Brakes, fuel, trany ) before I get the chassis & cab back to him. Then it will all be put together for panel & trim alignment, and the white paint.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
And around the stretch they come! looking good…looking good. BTW, are you going with dynomat, spray in sound deadiner/insulation or… nothing? Just curious since we are both approaching this kinda stuff.
Keep up the good work? Chris

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Chris
Not really sure yet, I don't really want to put anything that won't come out easily, so I guess I'm leaning towards nothing. Maybe just some sort of mat to help with insulating / sound deadening without it being stuck on. Do you know of anything like that ? Oh and there's still sooo much more to do !!!! "LOL" Plumbing, wiring, tires, interior, it goes on and on !!!

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Well the bed is all green now, but it's going to be spending the next week or two in Paint Jail.... "LOL" Literally !!!
The white will be done once the body is all assembled on the frame so we know everything lines up.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Got some bling coming next week..... Thought my wheels were 16" but I was wrong, they were 15"s so they wouldn't fit over my rear disc brake set-up. So new wheels & rubber have been ordered.
Money Pit, money pit, money pit !!!!!

Why jail? Where's the pics of the wheels? 17's should clear the brakes you got from me.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
They're 17"s that I have coming, pics of wheels will be coming next week !
What I ordered is kinda old school, a classic look, something to fit the look of the truck. Some of the new wheels just don't look right on these ole trucks. Oh, it's in paint jail because he NEEDS to get paint on the 29 sedan he's doing, and he doesn't want the bed hanging around the shop and possibly get damaged. Anyway that also gives me time to get more done on the chassis, plumbing, get the new tires & wheels on and stuff like that.

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Oh yes, When Steve was assembling the bed parts , test fitment, he wasn't able to get both of the bed hinges on !!! I had 2 left hinges !!! I bought this bed several yrs ago, all dismantled, and never new it. So I bought these ! Polished Stainless Steel !!! So no rusting or paint chipping.

Paint jail is a such a familiar term. Wonder where I have heard that before?? The pic of the lock on the storage container was a nice touch. Of course I am still waiting for mine to be painted. We were like hell fire out of the gate. Truck was all prepped, paint bought then,... crickets. In any event, will be good to see your truck all painted and shined up. Cheers Chris

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Thanks Chris,
I can't wait.... Within the next few weeks it will really start looking like a truck again. I just got off the phone with Steve ( The body guy ) and he is picking up my new tires & rims for me today on his way home and dropping them off at my house. I just ordered a bunch of plumbing supplies for the brakes, new braded hoses & stuff like that. So I'll be very busy getting the plumbing done for the brakes, fuel & trany this week. Then back to the body shop for final assembly...

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
I bought those from LMC, don't usually buy from them, but they had them in stock and I needed them ASAP for Steve. Their a rip off when it comes to shipping ! I was paying $26 for shipping + $35 on top of that for 2nd day.
I said to the woman taking the order, you know your charging me twice for shipping ? She replied... I Know !!!

Re: Project; Divorce Therapy ( 72 SWB 4x4 )
Sneak peek ! 285/70/17's
Looks like I need to go back to the 4" lift .... "LOL" I think these M/T Classic 3's have just the right look for these trucks, and I decided to go with the RWL on the tires because I think it will go well with the white on the truck !

Thanks tropical,
I'm getting anxious to see this truck finally come together. There's still a long way to go, but it can see the light.....
